Called the guy 1.5 hours after post and I was the third caller. Said he tried to sell them at a garage sale for $100 and couldn't so he posted them for $50 bucks. He was already holding them for someone to listen to tomorrow. Would have made a nice pair for my garage rig at a ridiculous price.

He told me they are the 600's with no powered sub. I even asked the guy if he would take more but said he had already given his word to hold them for the other guy. Can't blame a guy for keeping his word.

1000's (ones I own) have the built in sub, along with 20ps/2000's/3000's. Even at 100 that would have been a steal! They provide the same imaging and detail that rt55's do but with even more bass response being in a bigger cabinet.

Just looked at the vintage speakers section of the Polk site and you guys are right, these are RT800's. They have to be since they have the dual 6.5's.

    Nice deal :)

Yesterday these rt55's were 50 dollars too

    http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/ele/1297575399.html

Then he must have done a little research and they jumped up 100 bucks to 150 bucks.

He should have taken down the original ad

Just got ahold of him and he's had 8 offers for $100 for them. I'm going to see them tonight and will likely grab them. Still a great deal at $100. Can't blame the guy for bumping them higher with all those offers. He could have gotten more. I'll post what happens.......

....and you scored yours for $75 for the pair? Nice deal!

I'm kind of wishing I had bought the PSW650 for $120 (also a craigslist deal) to compliment these but I guess I can't complain until I actually hear them. I imagine they'll be great for the lightweight use they'll get in the office (formally garage).

Well, I brought them home! The drivers are flawless; like fresh from the factory flawless. The guy bought them and then never used them. One of the towers still has the cardboard still on the base plate and both manuals and feet were still unopened in packaging. Overall condition is fine however his cat has used them as a scratching post a time or two in years gone by.:mad: One of the speaker grills has a small hole in it.

Another update is that indeed as suggested by other members, these ARE the RT800's, not the RT600's as advertised by the guy. A look at one of the manuals confirmed what was on Polk's vintage speaker listing.

They sound fantastic and I am certainly surprised by their performance in the bass department. Given my experience first with the RT2000's followed by the RT3000's, I was expecting the bottom end to be missing somewhat but that is not really the case.

Once I have a chance to crank them a bit more, I will likely find their limitations but they certainly are perfect for what I'm using them for.

The only buyer's remorse here having paid $100 is that I know that if I'd been 1.5 hours sooner on the call, they would have been mine for $50 but no complaints here. Being the 3rd caller on them, I'm glad the other two hesitated enough on the trigger.

Here's a couple of pictures of the newly finished garage rig.

BTW, the Nintendo Wii is sourced off of the main theater system's Zone 2 and thanks to the wireless controllers and a $15 wireless infrared bar, the Wii can be used in either room.

I cranked them up. got worried for a second as one of the tweeters wasn't working. I figured out that the guy had them hooked up without banana plugs and the binding posts weren't tightened all the way down. Moment of panic over.

Nice sound!....just another reminder of why I love Polk speakers.

I didn't end up putting the feet on. Seems they do just fine without. They're on carpet. If it were a hard floor, I would have put them on.

....I bet your SVS Ultra sub fills in the bottom quite nicely for yours! :D
