Well, I went and did it... I picked up a Yamaha PX-3 today from the original owner. He claims to have used it for about 5 or 6 months before going digital, amd never went back. He was boomer in the Air Force, so when he was sent to his next duty staion, he sent it home to his parents house... Guys, the dust cover has never been installed on this one, as well as no makes or blemishes of any kind. I am still setting it up and will post my impressions later. For now, here are a few pics.

    Congrats John,

Looks nice...in fact, it looks so nice that you were too nervous to steady your camera on the first two shots! Just kidding....only you know...but those first two shots are blurry.

I am running the Yamaha supplied MC-705 cartridge. So far I am impressed with the purity of sound this table produces. It is very warm and open sounding. The table itself is dead silent with no audible hum or other distortion even at maxed out volume levels, but I do have a question for those that run vinyl... I have at least a 15 db differences in volume level between the Denon and the Yami. would this ba a result of the cartridge or is there something else at work here.

In terms of sound quality I perfer the Yamaha, but for rocking the house, for now the Denon wins..

The cartridge on the Yami is probably a lower output cartridge than the Denon. Does your preamp have a gain adjustment in the phono stage? If so boost the gain. If not you can get a phono pre and adjust the gain in that. If you don't want to go that route, raise the volume on the preamp when you are playing records.

I have been on the Dark Side for a couple months now, but a couple days ago my Denon took a crap on me, after picking up a few hundread bucks worth of vinyl. I got what I thought was a sweet deal on the Denon, but man there is no comparison to this one. The Yami is as sweet as holding my wife in front of a warm fire, and as crystal clear as any cd I have ever heard. The only words I have at this point are SPECTACULAR and WOW!!!

thanks man... I am absolutely mesmerized to the sound coming from the TL's and this table... My neigbor came over to hear what was happening... and after an hour his wife came knocking. He was astounded by the sonic image that was being painted in front of him, as am I. This table dispells all statements that Yamaha is mid-fi gear at best. In January of 1985, they built a world-class turntable, and this is one of them.

On the subject of a decent phono-pre, does anyone have a suggestion?

    John,
You having its' placement between your SRS's, and that NOT affecting the turntable is quite amazing. Who would've thought...

    Nice turntable:D
