On my Sony DVD player I have multi-channel out on the back of it. What would the benefits be if I hooked them up to the multi-channel in on the receiver and assigned the multi-channel on the receiver to the cd input. My DVD player IS NOT SACD compatiable. Would I gain anything by doing this. Thx.

Possibly, you might even get hi-rez DVD-A output, check your manual. Basically you will be using the internal DAC's instead of those in your receiver.

by using the 6 analog outs, you also add the cost of 6 high quality cables as well. you may not care, but to me the cost of cables is a consideration.

like Frank Z said, it becomes a question of wheter to use the DVD player or the rec. for DAC. you probably won't notice a difference.
