    Heya Ben, Ive been looking at the GG's for a while now. But I always get a bit turned off when people describe the sound, saying that its very fast and SS like. Which is the opposite of what I really dig, the warm fat tube sound. And that it doesnt respond well to tube rolling. Meaning it sounds pretty much the same, regardless of the brand of tubes used. And Im a mean roller, I like different sound for different types of music.

    I have no real time experience with it, so I'm probably just wasting bandwith here. But there are a boatload of reviews and opinions on this piece, and for the price, it has to be something to rave about.

    Looks interesting,$499 for the kit seems very reasonable if it turns out to be good sounding unit.

    I hear good things about Bruce's grounded grid preamp; I don't think he's currently really doing kits any more (due to the economy), though.
    I've thought about trying/buying one myself. Counterintuitive though it may seem, it's actually quite a challenge to knock together a DIY vacuum tube (yes, even line-level) preamp that is quiet, stable, and good-sounding! You can get some sense of tube DIY guru Gary Kaufman's struggles with linestages at his website: www.the-planet.org

    actually spent some time here. It sounded fine, but after an hour or so it would go sort of wonky...
