Unfortunately, the only really good 6922s seem to be the expensive 6922s and their kin. I wouldn't bother with the Rooshian ones. YMMV.

From my perspective, there isn't a worse choice for a hifi small-signal tube in this day and age :-(

Actually the older Russian tubes are great and even the 80's tubes are pretty damn good especially for the cost.

They aren't Mullards or Bugle Boys.............but I've found the equivalent Russian tubes in my pre-amp buffer stage to be really good. I buy them cheap from overseas.

I use 6AQ8's (Ecc85) so they are a little less common than other variants so the cost is a bit less. The 6N1P-EV is the Russian equivalent. They have slightly higher gain which is a good thing.

Just got 7/pr's of 6N1P-EV from the early 70's with the "OTK" stamp on them. They should sound fantastic.

The Pre I am using uses 6922's I guess because it uses transformers on the outputs. Is there another tube you could recommend even if it has slightly less gain?
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. I like the German tubes too. I have a pair of Siemens Falcon logo as well as a pair of RFT's from the 70's and they have a very lush midrange and huge soundstage. I have yet to listen to a pair of 60's RCA's I bought that were manufactured at the Blackburn plant where Mullards were manufactured. Supposedly the same tube based on the markings.

Trying to get a pair of Telefunken's at a decent price but I was outbid on fleabay.

If you can,, check with the manuf.and see if 6CG7's can be used in place,,same pinout, different plate voltage,,but in some cases they can be subbed,, much lower gain as well. Good luck.

    I hated the EH 6922's I had.

In fact. I;ve hated every EH tube I have ever tried.

I'm not a big fan of EH tubes either although the EH Gold aren't too bad.

The best preamp tube combination for me so far is the GE 5751 and the MULLARD 4024.

My many years with audio gear has been with mid/fi ss stuff.Other priorities would not let me go the top grade audiophile route.I bought a tube pre and a tube buffer a few years ago just to satisfy my curoiusity. Now after using them, yea I do like tubes in the chain. They are $$$$$ but I"m glad I took the plunge. All the best to you Ben.
