CS-400i drivers

Hello all,

I have recently bought a second 400i to take the roll of rear center. However it was damaged in shipping... the magnet broke off one of the woofers:(

I contacted polk and ask what the replacment would be and they said the MW-7204. However the sticker on the magnet of the dead speaker says MW-7018.

These MW-7018 speakers cones are all black, whereas my first 400i cones are bluish in color...

Anybody else out there have a 400i with black cones?
Anybody know the difference between the 7018 and the 7204 acoustically?

    Are you sure it isn't a CS400?

    there are no 400i's with black drivers, if yours has black drivers its a CS400. I'm pretty sure the only difference between the original and the i version is those new woofers (the tweeters stayed the same). (they may have changed the crossover to accomodate the new woofers, however) anyways, you want to order an MW-7018 (the black driver), not the 7204 (the new blue driver).

    I believe your guys are correct... I got the thing on Ebay and it was listed as a 400i

    Oh well... anybody know how it compares to the 400i?

    The 400i tweeter and crossover were *slightly* different than the 400.

    The midbasses should be identical, short of the cone color.

    Don't quote me on it, but as I recall that was Ken's explanation in the past.

    Apparently quite a few felt the original RT trilam was a little bright, and the 'i' series was designed to retain the same tonal character, but remove that 'edge' in the upper most octaves.

    As far as I'm concerned, I've heard several RT and the first gen RTi side by side, and can't tell a lick of difference. For all intents and purposes, they are the same speaker (to me).

    I converted too 55i's which are about the same speaker as the 400 series center. there are parts floating around here ta prove it.
