i am so pissed at my onkyo . I love the sound for movies ,especialy on the snow mobile scene on **** ,amazing, But heres the deal, when listening to the music channels on my hd dvr the sounds taking up to one minute to kick in , I hear the receiver making switching noises, the same kind you hear when switching between components or turning the standby , on the sirrius music channels this is sooooo frustrating because i only have 1 hdmi cord so i cant see the channel and have to wait up to 1 minute just to c if i like the song, in my opinion anyone buying this should consider it a hardcore dealbreaker . Fhuc onkyo and the guy i bought it from on ebay with there crappy one week return policy

    Fans, fans, fans!

Onkyos do make switching noises when booting to digital sources. If your DVR is such a problem I suggest you bypass the HDMI and toslink to the ONKYO. You don't gain anything audio wise with HDMI form a DVR box vs. a toslink or coax.

You're not having any delays with DVDs...right? Just the initial switching then you should be fine!

As has been said...Onkyos are good but the run 'hot'. Mine does as well but I wouldn't get rid of it. 2 years and still operating fine!

i will buy an optical cable and try it, i just noticed that i have the north american/ tiawan model and theres no pure audio direct button on front? is this the wrong model i have? pure adio direct shuts the thing down to give you the best sound according to the what hi fi review. but other than that i do love the epic sound from movies and now cd's after buying the marantz dvd player for 52 dollars at onecall , you can change the sampling rate and itl be 4 times the res of a normal cd, i tryed my wifes nora jones cd and never heard that clean an audio signal, flawless

As far as I know, no Onkyo 600 North American series (the only one you can get in the U.S.) has ever offered a Pure Audio feature. The 800s have that...and I'm not sure about the 700s...maybe!

    You're right...it's a bummer that the N.A. models don't feature that.

I had the same problem with the HDMI switching from my Onkyo 806, the booting that cnh talked about was annoying!

I just added a Music Hall DAC 25.2 and had to use the optical direct to my Samsung television out of necessity of the DAC. Everything worked out great, problem solved!
No more delay as the Onkyo resets. Now I have nice warmer sound. :D
In retrospect, there was no added benefit from running my Directv HD box through the Onkyo when the Samsung has an ample number of HDMI ports. Also there was nothing to up-convert that the Directv did not already handle.
I have the Pure Audio setting on my 806, I’m not sure about the 607.

What Hifi is a European publication. Mystery solved! They had either a UK or Euro version running...those have that feature.

in responce to my onkyo 607 time delays with my dish network hd dvr sirrius music channels taking like 1 min to come on between switching channels, i went and bought a new monster 1.3 hdmi cable and its now wwwwwayyy better, now it only takes less than 2 seconds for the sound to kick on ,also any sources i now select comes on in half the time.I suspect this boiled down to my monoprice hdmi cable being bent at the connector because i had to do a wrap around connecting the dvr,so i apoligise to my onkyo 607 for dissing it
