correct wattage for LSi15s

Hi, I'm new to the advanced fidelity field. I just purchased a pair of LSi15s to pair with my Sony STR-DG920 receiver. My question relates to my understanding of impedance. Since my receiver is rated at 110W x 7 (8 ohms, THD 1.0%), and the speakers are rated at 4 ohm impendance, does that mean they will receive 220W? Should this be sufficient for these speakers? Thank you for any help. I am moving to my first home and would like to avoid purchasing a separate amplifier right now, but if they need more power to sound great, I will have to splurge.

Unfortunately watts are not what you need to concern yourself with. What you should be concentrating on is the current [ohm rating] that is available to the speakers and your receiver is not compatible, FYI. You can listen at lower levels without fear of any damage to either, but I would keep the volume low at all times.
They do need more power and before we all move on, do you have a budget in mind?

So my understanding is the ohm rating of my receiver cannot change. Is this correct? OK, so i need more power. I would say I could spend up to $800 on an amp. Will the receiver be enough to power an LsiC and rear in-ceiling rear surrounds (not yet purchased) or will they also need to be amped? Leading me to the question do i need a 5-channel amp or 3 or 2? Thanks again.

by the way, the new home I'm furnishing with this setup is in Charlotte. Small world

I'll leave the HT [Home Theater] questions to the HT folks here at Club Polk only because I'm a 2 channel guy.
Correct, unless there is an ohm switch that is usually located on the back of the receiver. Please note that most AVR's do not come with this option.flldtt wrote:So my understanding is the ohm rating of my receiver cannot change.
Do you possibly have jumpers that can be removed that allow for separate amplification on your AVR?~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
no ohm switch (the A/B switch is not related I'm assuming). I do not have a clue what jumpers are. Forgive my ignorance.
My LSiC center channel is rated at 4 ohms & 20-200W. Does that help?
The specs for my receiver are here: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665364793

Damn, you don't have pre-outs on that unit. Did you happen to have just bought it? The AVR, that is......~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

I did just purchase it. It is still in the box. Did I make a mistake?
-
Well, you didn't make a mistake. The salesman who sold it to you sold two items that were not compatible for optimum sound. Kinda like a tire salesman selling you a 15" tire for a 13" rim.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? There are some options for you. Don't freak out. When you hit 10 posts, I'll PM you my phone# and we can cover a lot more ground much quicker than typing.
In the meantime, are you opposed to purchasing used gear?~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
Only my ignorance to blame. I'm purchasing online to save $. (LSi15s for $750 with shipping and 2-year war.) let's just assume I have no receiver(I'll return or sell this one). So for $1200-1500 and a 5.1 setup, what do my speakers need?

Used is fine with me.
-
Ok, buying used opens your options up tremendously. That's good to hear. How loud do you listen to music? Also, do you listen more to movies or music?~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. I wouldn't happen to be talking to "Double-D" would I? Just curious....~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

Definitely more movies, sports, etc . . . I like it all pretty loud especially the music. Not double D by the way. I'm actually not officially a queen city resident until Friday.
Thanks again for all the help. -
Where you at now [if you don't mind me asking] and where might you be moving too in Charlotte? Maybe we can meet up for a beer as an official welcome in to the city!
Oh, the Double-D thing? He's a good buddy of mine. It dawned on me since you said your name was David that you might have been him. Please disregard.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. I'm down for a beer with an audiophile. I close on my place on Friday. It's in Plaza Midwood right by The Plaza and Central ave. I'm in spartanburg until then.
