I loved my Samsung 1080P 50" plasma I had last year.
About the only thing my current Pioneer does better is the back levels and Standard definition content.

Colors on the Samsung TV's are terrific!

I think what he meant was no current Pioneer models have been released yet with the Panny screens. That will be in the near future.

Yep, I could have worded it better but my point is Panasonic plasma screens will be good enough for Pioneer

Well went to AmericanTV with the intent to buy one tv and came out with two.:D
I ended up getting another Samsung 52" 650. They also had a sale going on spend $3000 in furniture and get a free Samsung 52 inch 450 series for free. The 4 year old will get that. Got some new theater seating and TV stand. So the love for Samsung continues I guess with

Samsung 46" 850 series (living room)
    Samsung 46" 650 series ( bedroom)
Samsung 52" 650 series (Bought today)
Samsung 52" 450 series ( got for free today)

I ended up going with the Samsung 52" 650 because of the price and the picture is just stunning. I bypassed the KURU real fast at ($5500) and starting looking at the Panasonic Plasma's. I wasn't impressed with their Plasma's. The colors was great and vivid but just didn't tickle my EMO.:)

I headed to the Samsungs and stayed for a while. The Plasmas IMO had a better picture than the Panasonic. The colors were right on with the panasonics but the detail and whites were better with the Sammy's.
Now it was between the Samsungs LCD VS Plasma's. The colors were better on the Plasma's but I liked the brighter picture (whites)and the more natural picture. No glare to worry about in my basement.

They wanted $2899 for the 58" samsung 550 plasma and for the 50" same model it was only $1299. Thats a big difference for only 8 inches. So I chose the 52" 650 LCD for $1899. I am planning on using the 52" for a computer monitor as well that was another deciding factor.

Thanks alot everyone for there help and input on LCD VS Plasma's. Hopefully someday I can grab that KURU.

In the future, the Pioneer screen will be manufactured to their spec by Panasonic. It will not be the same screen as whats in other panny models.

I have had my samsung 58" 650 plasma for a month now and love it. I was in the same boat as you with the pioneer plasma being out of my price range. Samsung makes a great TV and you will love it! i paid $2699 (Best Buy employee cost is $2682) for mine at best buy due to a local company (ABT Electronics) having an insane sale on it so best buy matched their price. Throw in the three years 0% and i couldnt pass it up. I have a friend who works at best buy who helped me with the cost of the tv so i could have a better idea of what i could haggle to. They are hurting so dont go in and pay full retail. I was going to get the 550 samsung but for $2582 at best buy (the low price due to a price match at the same store listed above) but liked the overall look of the 650 better. There really isnt a huge difference in the TV except for a few bells and whistles. Consumer report just put out a buying guide on TV's and both Samsungs did great. You might want to check out this website for a review and calibration settings. Looks great and it comes close to 6500K (thats what ISF claibration adjusts it to if you want to pay the $250 to do it). anyway if you have any Q's feel free to ask. Here's the link to look at.

I believe he has the LCD 650, not the plasma. In which case the reviews and calibration settings you posted would be useless to him..:p

Shame Fujitsu don't make plasma anymore :( - like a previous post, I would put my 50 inch 1080i up against any 1080p display currently available. I have plugged my PS3 via HDMI into a Sharp 1080p LCD and Samsung 50 inch 1080p plasma, watched a Blu-Ray movie and the images on both displays were nowhere near as defined or precise.

People state the Pioneers are a little higher in price, but you get what you pay for - and a product that will outlast others. My 50 inch Fujitsu was $9000 AUD when I purchased it 3 years ago. My 42 inch Fujitsu was $10900 AUD 6 years ago and still looks good as the day I purchased it - my point, think long term and pay a little extra now to gain the benefits in the future.

Did you know that Pioneer has released new 50" and 65" KURO monitors? I just picked up the 50" KRP-500M and absolutely love it. I found that the plasmas were so easy on my eyes with their natural colors and display. I couldn't pass on picking one up from Vanns for under $2k including the stand. It doesn't have or built-speakers but who needs them in this age of component audio video systems. My LSi's, Emotiva amps and SC-07 receiver handle the sound end nicely. I would say that the monitor nicely compliments my SC-07 receiver that Metal83 alerted me to in his post. My Tivax tuner works fine for OTA TV even with its analog video output. A digital tuner with HDMI is on the list.

Actually, Pioneer is burying the Kuro line. They're done with plasma.

The 2009 models from Panasonic have stunning ratios and prices are decent (plus, I'm getting a discount). I'm probably going to pull the trigger on a model in the S1 series.

Rule of thumb for plasmas in terms of performance and quality:
    Pioneer is #1
    Panasonic is close #2
    Everybody else is #3.

Samsung 650 series is great for the price, but IMHO, you'd get a better bang for your buck buying Panasonic.

X2 I agree, I have the Kuro, but my 2nd choice was the Pannasonic.

    Just an fyi...

Many people have reported wide bars that exhibit pink hue on these sets. I bought a 63" A650 and I have 3 wide bars (about 3 inches wide) that can only be seen if you are watching a hockey game or if you invoke the full white screen in the anti-burn option. A tech is coming out to diagnose the problem. Many people had their panel's replaced by Samsung. In my opinion, there should be a recall.
