Ez as Pie speakers

Another new speaker at Rancho de Audio. A DIY modified (larger) version of the Pi Studio One.

These speakers combine the Eminence Alpha 8 woofer with the Vifa DX25 tweeter. Dimensions are 38"H, 11.25"W, 12.5"D. The first order crossover includes an Alpha Core copper foil inductor and a Northcreek Zen capacitor. Approx 95db 1w/1m.

Very dynamic speaker, good low end punch, and a sweet, natural midrange you can only find with paper cones. They are almost broke in, going to sit down and spend some time listening tonight.

Cheers,
Russ

You have your amps sitting on the carpet?!
Are you planning on listening to all those CD's sitting on the coffee table tonight?

They're huge! Especially in comparison to your B&Ws. Look like nice speakers, though. Pretty rosewood color. Did you put 'em together?

Those are modded Eico HF-50's on the carpet (not plugged in currently). No, a friend of mine built these, I don't build - I buy. ;)

Those are a very nice looking speaker. You don't often see a driver with a ribbed surround these days. Does the surround limit their overall volume much? Just curious.

    Keep us posted. Enjoy!

The Alpha 8 is a 'pro' driver. The accordian surround is common in low x-max, high power, high efficiency designs. Why? Ask a speaker guy.

Thanks Russ. I'll pm you when the project team gets some dates on the calendar. I'll even bring the cold beer! If the B&W's happen to be available at that time, we'll have to do a little business. Doug.

Thoughts on the speakers? I don't know yet. I did spend a lot of time listening the other night, but I must have passed out. I woke up naked, in the fetal position on the floor, with a half full glass of suds still on the table, and the cap missing from the Beam.

Yes, Makers Mark if I'm out with the boys and a good cigar is involved, Beam is a daily driver.

Another vote for Makers over here. . .

Russman, what part of North Texas do you live. That's kind of a big area, not quite like saying North Rhode Island or something : )

I'm in North Dallas. . . Addison area. Probably need to check out your set-up one of these days so I can put together a 10-yr upgrade plan.

    Nice looking speakers, BTW.

Heavily modded HF-50's. Stem to stern, completely recapped. Cardas inputs, Cardas milled solid copper posts, IEC power jacks, and a switch on the fly solid state / tube rectifier.

Trannies are headed to my paint guy.
