Guys/Girls , I need help/advice here. I'm looking for a good dependable player.
I watch movies in 2 Channel only. (please don't make an issue out of this)
I have an LG 50 Plasma, currently have an OPPO 981 connected to 2 ch audio.
I'm looking for a dependable, easy to use(wife uses while I'm at work) player, that will get me the most bang for the buck.
Suggestions are appreciated.Thanks in advance.

PS3 or you can grab a Pioneer BDP-51FD for a decent price. Those would be my two choices, but the PS3 is going to be more responsive and offer much more bang for the buck.

George,
Vann's has benn selling the Pioneer BDP-51FD for as low as $240 and it has a dedicated 2-channel analog output. That would be my choice. -
George,
Do you plan on using this player to watch older SD DVDs?
If so, the BDP51 has been noted to have some....long....layer changes.
Some don't mind this cuz of the other positive traits of this player, others find it annoying to....wait....seconds for layer changes when watching standard DVDs.
This player also doesn't yet support DTS-HD lossless audio, but a f/w update is expected end of March or in April.
The BD performance is reputed to be very good indeed and the analog outs as well cuz of the Wolfson DACs, but some still comment that BD disks take a looong time to load.

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music. -
I just purchased the Pioneer BDP 51 from Amazon a month or so ago and have been very impressed. The build quality is top notch and the performance (with the exception of loading times which can be annoying if you are in a hurry) has been outstanding. The layer changes on SD are tolerable, only 1-2 seconds one time during the film. I would recommend this player (with the updated firmware) wholeheartedly.

George, I own a Panasonic BR and am very please with the player. I have owned several Panasonic products in the past and have never had a problem. Good luck.Michael

In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

I will chime in as well,
I have the PS3 as my own personal player, however I have had expierence with just about every player on the market, and I will give it to panasonic, the bd35 is by far the best value/feature per dollar you can go with. Its not only one of the most affordable, but still yeild excellent proccessing ability as well as a very intuative user interface.

I just purchased the Pioneer BDP-51FD from 6th Avenue and am extremely pleased
:):). Also have to mention that the purchase experience (first purchase) from 6th Avenue was absolutely transparent and wonderful. Got it at a bit <$270 delivered; it was double boxed and is from Japan. Now to look for some quality 7.1 cables to hook it up to my VSX-47TX Pioneer receiver. -
Thanks for all of the suggestions,, gonna order one today, one thing,,since I'm 2 channel,, do these things give you the option of listening/adjusting the output to 2ch? I guess what I'm trying to ask is,, with only L&R channel, how do I get all the sound thru the two speakers(stereo),Gawd,, hope this makes sense to some of you smarter folks, who can answer this--thanks in advance.JC approves....he told me so. Did you go with the Pioneer George?
-
George personally I would just be patient and wait for the new 2009 models from Pioneer and Oppo to come out in the next month or two. The Oppo BDP-83 and the Pioneer Elite BDP-23fd and read the reviews of both when they have been tested at cnet.com and ultimateAVmag.com. Toughest thing is just being patient.

When it comes to loading time with the PS3 for bluray movies what is it? I am reading the reviews for the new Oppo BDP-83 from many Beta testers and they say the loading time for it is around 4 seconds. If loading time is important to some people the Oppo should be considered. But the Oppo hasn't hit the market yet in it's final design, so we will have to wait and see how it compares to the PS3 in sound/audio and video quality. -
I was on Amazon yesterday and saw they have a Sansui on sale for $169 (marked down from $299). 'don't know much about it, but this seemed like a good deal.
