spade connection for Denon AVRs?

Maybe I should have posted this under Connections, but am wondering if any other folks out there with Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo AVRs have been able to use spades connectors.

I am in contact with a seller of used cables that have spades on both ends. No problem fitting them on my Polks (I have a single line of SC Ultras with spades on one end, nanners on the other running to my center speaker), but when I just tried to connect the spades to my Dennon AVR, I couldn't make it work.

Am I doing something wrong? Is it common for such a mainstream AVR not to accept spades? If so, I'm bummed because otherwise I'd really like to get these cables...(used) price is right and the lengths are perfect.

I'm not sure about the Denons, but I know that my Onkyo won't accept spades. I'd imagine that's probably the case with your Denon as well. I don't understand why they would put outputs on AVR's that don't accept spades, seeing how common spade connectors are. Seems like a pretty big design flaw to me.

Here's a link to an adapter that will convert spades into bananas...I'm getting some of these sometime soon for a pair of AQ Type 4 I'm in line to demo. They're terminated with spades on both ends, and the Onk' won't accept them, so these will do the trick.

This probably isn't the ideal solution though. You could always have the cables re-terminated if you don't mind spending a little bit more money on some bananas.

Thanks for letting me know about your Onkyo.

I just looked on a Yamaha RX-797 that I run as a second 2 channel, and it appears that there is the same configuration as the Denon, and likewise it appears not to accept spades. As you said, I'm not sure why these big manufacturers would each not provide for this kind of connection. Then again, if I were ever to order new cables I would always go with bananas.

Thanks also for the idea and the link to the part. But yeah, it probably wouldn't be worth it in this case because the (used) cables only come to $70 shipped, and it looks like I would need four of those at $5 a pop plus shipping. It might be worthwhile for more expensive cables, but probably not in this case.

Oh, well...looks like I'll have to pass on these and wait for some with bananas to become available.
