A couple of questions about this upgrade. Which is better the a9's or the 12's? I can get the 12's for 400.00 plus 115.00 shipping and the a9's any Saturday for 599.00. So the difference in price is a push to me. I know the a9's are newer and have a curved shape to them and the 12's are more like my m70's.I would assume that the center choices are the same? Also will I need more power to push these speakers? I have heard that the LSi15's need a large amp to push them. As always thanks. Darryl

The 9's are essentially the newer version of the 12s, but are reported to sound a bit better (and perhaps less bright) but mostly similar to each other. Note: I haven't compared them myself. If money were not an issue I would go for the 9's. I also like the curved feature as well as the fact that the front is also veneered where the 12's are not, but thats more design and WAF factor than anything else.
I'm assuming the prices are per speaker?
If money is an issue, then go for the 12's. $400 is a big difference for a subtle improvement IMHO.

The A9's are a better speaker. They are also a lot sexier looking with the curved back vs the boxy rti12s. You are going to want an external amp to get the most out of those speakers. They just won't sound near as good without proper amplification. They will be much more bright because those other larger woofers will not open up without some more juice. They are a large speaker, not really designed with the average receiver in mind.

$599.99 apiece @ Newegg on Saturdays sale for the RTi a9's. With free shipping. My Onkyo amp is 165 per channel. I would hope that would be enough power?

You will quickly be looking for an external amp with these speakers...not that your AVR cannot drive them, but it is inevitable...

That's a bit on the small side for the A9's. It will power them nicely, but IMO, you won't get the most out of them.

On another note, I think it's funny that everyone has this conception that the RTi A's are a lot less "bright" than the RTi's. There is such a tiny difference when stock. Now my 8's are less than my A5's with the mods.

It's time to do the a5's then. :)
