I've got it all wrong...

Well according to some places I've got this whole hobby backwards. I should be running test on all my gear, using a mic on everything to measure performance, buy the cheapest amp and other gear to use, and also use a coat hanger for my connections....

So I just wanted to say thank you to all those that are willing to let your ears decide, give good straight advice, and that realize even the amp that can measure the greatest in everything can sound like crap when in a system.

I'm never leaving here. :D

Now you need to find some SDA's for your 2 channel setup for that 5802 of yours, I bet you would sell those A9's.:)

well I'm using the A9's for HT but if I can find some SDA's and move to a place that I can have enough room for them to be properly set up I would do it in a heart beat as I wanted to do a dedicated 2 channel system.

It's something you have raised this discussion.

There is a thread over at the "science" forum discussing the merits of outboard vs. internal amplification. What a mess they have going there. A bunch of ignorant know-nothings claiming the impossibility to discern one amp from ANY other, be it internal or not!
Then the thread degraded more from there. Totally unbelievable and unreal.

If you wanted a 2-channel rig, all you had to was ask.

What do you have to sell and given that, what's your budget? 2 channel does not have to be a bank breaker.

right now I'm just starting to gather the stuff for a 2 channel. I have the pre on order the Parasound 2100, got the interconnects, and I got the amp. Right now I was going to run it all through my HT as I felt I didn't have enough room to have something properly set up. Living room is 14X16 while the bedrooms are smaller. So for now I was just going to be using the A9's unless I find some good bookshelves and a sub and do a 2.1. I have some ideas of what I was going to do, Focal 706v's possibly, but if I found some SDA's for a good price and they would work in one of my rooms. hehehehhe

Who recommended the coat hanger for connections?
Coat hangers aren't really flexible enough for that.
They also won't work for the HDMI and you only can get half a connection on the RCA's.;)

lol. yeah it was a funny suggestion but the guy was serious. I just can't believe some suggestions sometimes. Even though the forum can have its moments here, I enjoy it so much more and don't feel like I want to throw my computer out the window when I read posts.

there's more. just look in the 2 channel section. There are plenty of fun ones to read and how they must "test" everything and that if an amp colors music in any way, then it must be working improperly. just makes my head hurt.

    Bingo.

Because how do you know if the amp is coloring anything? You don't. Nobody knows exactly how the recording should sound on perfectly 100% neutral transparent gear, because that gear doesn't exist. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you move on and just start trying to find what sounds good to you.

Wait on pulling the trigger on speakers for your 2-channel (unless you find a great deal on SDAs or something) until you come down here.

I'm going to turn you on to Paradigms. Deal with it. :p

Well I haven't bought anything yet. I was also looking at getting a new projector butttt, I may wait a bit on that. So I'll see what I can find for some nice speakers. I wanted to try something different than polks. However I still might try and take that guy up on the LSI7's he had. not sure though. We'll see I guess. I wouldn't mind trying some digms sometime.

PS I don't know how to mutliquote here so I'm still learning!!!!

cstmar01, IIRC you are in Wisconsin? You can come to Rockford anytime we have our local meets. We might try to squeeze one more in before the Summer has all of us too busy. We call ourselves the Rockford Audio Society and we have quite a selection of gear and speakers. If you ever want to get you ears on some SDA's or vintage Monitors or Maggies or tubes or modded DAC's or MIT cables, etc.........our door is always open......err,,,,,,I mean the rabbit hole goes deep

Sound like a good time to me! Just let me know when things are happening and I'll try and make it down. Rockford is about a 2.5-3 hour drive for me so its not all that bad. I really do want to get my ears on some SDA's so that would be really nice to do so.

And I know I'm going to be around this hobby for a long long time thanks to you guys :)

oh and FYI I might be getting into a place come July 1st that I would have a lot bigger of a room to put SDA's in. I'll try and get some pictures of it. Still an apartment but its a "open floor plan" with the kitchen and the living room. The living room is like 14X18 but is open to the kitchen and I would have a back wall about 20ft + to put some SDA's on. I'll get the photos later to show.

Why can't your 2-channel rig be hooked up in the same space as your HT set-up???

Due to the space. My screen is 100" diagonal so with that and my current speakers for HT I think it might be too cramped, But we'll see. I'll have to go over to my friends place ( he lives in the same ones I would move into) and see what it all measure out to be.
