Monitor 5's/7's

This is my first post, didn't even realize such a great site existed. 15 years ago I bought a set of monitor 5's off a guy and I didn't realize what I had until a polk fanatic informed me. All i knew was that I love these speakers! I just purchased a pair of monitor 7's for the basement and I was wondering why the 5's are so much heavier than the 7's? I think the specs have the 5's at 44lbs and the 7's at 38 lbs. I would think that bigger speakers should weigh more. Not sure if it matters but my 5's are black and the 7's have a wood look to them.

Welcome to the club. Both the 5's and 7's are great speakers. The weight may have more to do with the versions of the speakers. There are several model changes for each (ie. Model 7, Monitor 7A, Monitor 7B, Monitor 7C, Monitor 7 series 2) and variations within the model changes. I know my Monitor 5A's are surprisingly solid.Stan

First of all....Welcome to Club Polk.
The 5s are suprisingly heavy, but I believe the 7s are actually bigger and heavier of the two. Specs have a shipping weight of 48lbs for the 5's and 33lbs for 7s, but I think I read the 5's were shipped as pairs and the 7s individually.
I've got a pair of 5s and 7s .....I'd like to hear some 10's.
