I currently have a pair of Monitor 5jr's circa 1993 and I have a Luxman R-341 from same time period. I'm wondering if I should get an amp? I was thinking of tracking down a Luxman M-111 Amp, if not any other suggestions?. My question is will this be too much for my speakers? Will it make them sound better?
I listen to a lot of Jazz and High quality Grateful Dead and love bass
I'm a newbie to this group so I apologize in advance if this doesn't make sense
TIA

Have you considered a pair of the ASL tubed monos ? IIRC the 8 watt version.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

The M5jr are begging for tubes with your music preferences. I've got a pair on the headboard of my bed being fed by tubes via HK 260 and even at low volume they're little bass monsters with great sound.
Feed 'em with some hot glass and realize a new world with them. Great speakers when properly driven in the right size room.

I'm not really familiar with Luxman products, but I know my Monitor 7A's turned into entirely different sounding speakers with external amplification.
I listen to a lot of live Dead myself...and with some proper amplification, the vintage Monitors can be very proficient when Phil drops the bomb.;)
Will it be too much for your speakers? There really is no such thing. You're more likely to damage a speaker with too little power, than too much power. The nirvana inducer-

Thanks for all the responses, as for getting tubes I'm not sure what that means I'm not that knowledgeable about audio equipment. Can someone provide an example?Monitor 7C's With Tubes

Can you tell me more about proper amplification?, I'm a huge fan of Phil I also like Stanley Clarke (School Days) to give you a better idea about my lust for bass and I'd love to hear their music at it's thundering finest.Monitor 7C's With Tubes -
I have a Luxman L-430 and it is so smooth you would think it was tubes.
I compared it to my Yamaha CR-1020 and the Yammie sounds harsh by comparison.

Kick butt integrated amp. You'll love it if it's in good working order.

He's a Klipsh fanatic, has circa 1950 Khorns? and more audio equipment then I've ever seen. When he speaks audio It all goes over my head I'm assuming it's in good working order. I hope it pairs well with my Luxman and the 5jrs+. But that's just on a to borrow basis, if i like the sound it provides were would be a good place to start online to purchase similar products? I think I've got a new obsession brewing in me.Monitor 7C's With Tubes
