How would I implement the tube buffer to the PS3/806 sans the DAC? Or was that already answered?

Oh... i may have just skipped over a few posts, my bad.

Honestly, i think you're going about this in the wrong order. I vote you get a decent source first. It'll sound better than the PS3, and it'll also be easy to get the buffer in there if that's what you choose to be the next step.

Thanks man, I appreciate the info. I was wanting to try the PS3 as a source because I already had one and Russ is sending me a tube buffer of his to try out, so I was wondering if the DAC was needed or not. I will eventually get to a good source, just wanted to give the PS3 a shot first.

If there's analog outputs on the PS3 (i genuinely don't know) then you can use the buffer with the PS3. If there isn't, then you're out of luck, unless yes, you get a DAC.

But, if you're going to be willing to spend the coin on a pretty good quality CDP within a reasonable time anyways, then spending money on a cheap DAC now is kindof going around in circles. Get my drift? :)

The money you'd spend on a DAC now could easily get you into at least a decent CDP, and if you wanted to improve more later, you could then spend later for a much better dac, or step up your source even further.

Question....what is the status of the, as yet unborn? Russ Jr.??

Yeah C, we had a really good get together and had a lot of fun. Russ is sending me a tube buffer to try out, and hopefully getting the inside track on that DAC, I love it when a plan comes together, lol.

wuta I am so glad you have decided to dispense with the 10G rig, this way we can get right down to the 25G one and not waste anymore time waddling in the kiddie pool.

I was lucky enough to win some Tsi500 at the Fest, nice speaker no doubt I do enjoy mine.

LOL Ted, I am never going to live that down am I? I love those 500's, got them pulling surround duty for now while I assemble my 2 ch rig, slowly. Haven't gotten a chance to try them out as surrounds yet, but should have some time today. And btw, where did this 10G idea come from, I said in my original post that I wasn't looking to spend 10 grand, lol. I must be more careful with my words. :D

Amplification wise, nothing less than a pair of Pass Labs XA-100.5 monoblocks will suffice. They only run about $16,500 a pair IIRC. Then all you'll have to do is invest another $8600 or so on a Pass XP20 preamp, and about $3k more on a Marantz SA11S2. Speaker wise...I'm thinking some Tyler Acoustics Linbrook Super Towers with custom Linbrook stereo subs. That should only add on another $5000ish.

Then, of course, you'll be wanting to send your new 2 channel rig 2 me for a few years of evaluation. I'm gonna need to make sure it sounds good, before I can let you listen to it.:)

I think I may have to 'assist' Curt with the 'listening' aspects of that Pass labs system, Jeff--I'm sure you want as many reviews as possible before you pick it up?

wutadumsn23 ...I recently won a set of TSi 500's in a raffle... -Jeff

Amazing how expensive those speakers you won are getting:) Your thread is a great read...please keep updating. I have an Onkyo 876 and found an RT5000p HT set up used for $500. Came to this forum to review and recalled SDA from the 80's ... sure enought SDA 2B on CL $160 but needed a driver so now at $200. I think sure, the 876 will work...add $600 for a Carver TFM-45 and then you need a pre right??? add another $100.

So now my $500 find has cost me another $900 and then Ricardo does this ... http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95739 Well worth the $$$ sounds great...but now at $1900 for my "find" and some projects to do!

Anyway, hope you are less impulsive and I will go back to lurking your journey.

LOL< knowing me it will be more expensive than I like, but you can't put a price tag on good music, right? I have been doing HT for years now and the stuff in my sig. is my stopping point (for now) while I focus on my 2 ch. endeavor. It is coming along, with the help of some very generous members here on the forum. Russ is shipping me a tube buffer ro play around with and I may be getting a sweet DAC from a guy I met last weekend at the Seattle mini meet. Just gotta get my hands on a decent amp, and I will be in business. Those 500's were an unexpected, to say the least addition, and they will be with me for a long time to come. Strap in boys, it's gonna be a bumpy ride, lol.

Purchased off Lexington, KY craigslist ad. and his reply to generic surround system with no pictures was:
    Model numbers (2) Rt3000p (2) F/x1000 (1) Cs1000p
As for age not sure exactly I would say maybe 7 to 8 years old. Still an awesome
    system Color. Rosewood

I wish this guy had just set plants on them. Someone liked to burn candles on top of the towers. So let's just say I have a DIY grill project when I can find the right stuff at Joanne fabrics I have seen talked about here. and my WAF wanted black cabinets...

    back to the program...
