What are SRT's worth?

I'm looking at a pair of SRT's that have come up for sale within 1 hour of me. I don't yet know if the pair comes with the controller. I've contacted the seller to find out. What is a fair price to offer if the speakers are in good condition and they come with the controller?

I saw the ones you are looking at and I would say the seller is way to high as the set does not appear to be complete. I would pay (if I had it) up to the amount he is seeking for a MINTY set, but if you are onlik getting what appear to be the mains and the controller I would not go more than 1500 or so and pray you can find the other parts of the system later. The CS1000 is not to difficult to get, but the rears will be a PITA to find.

I'm not concerned about the center or rears (please enlighten me if I should be). I currently have the RT5000 system and my plan would be to keep the CS1000P center and FX1000 rears and just replace the RT3000's with the SRT mains.

Also make damn sure whatever parts are there work flawlessly, as driver's, tweeter's, contollers, etc. are no longer available. Personally, I'd be leary of buying an incomplete set, especially w/o a controller as you could wait years to find someone selling the pieces you need to complete the set-up. Especially the controller which is the heart of an SRT system

As usual, I'm with John 100% on the advice he is giving you, DPowell.

That being said, I would love to see you have them, but cost and the pain in the **** factor in getting the rest of the components may just be too much overcome my friend.

The choice is yours of course DPowell, I just want to see you happy, that's all.

This could work well seeing as though you already have the center. The seller already has the controller, so I would go for it at a greatly reduced price over his asking. I would use the fact that the set is not complete as part of my negotiating tactic to reduce the price. As others have pointed out, make certain that everything works... Good Luck!

Are there any current Polk speakers that even come close to what the old SRT's did sound-wise? (stupid question I'm sure...but I hear the SRT's years ago and was blown away!)
    AVR: Denon X3200W
    Mains: Polk TSx440T
    Center: Polk CS10
    Surround: Polk TSi300
    Sub: Polk PSW110

Nothing in the current Polk lineup compares. That's why I'm pursuing them. :D

Thanks. These don't have the bass radiator so there's no compression test to perform. Are there other things I should look for other than the obvious listening to each driver to make sure I'm getting functional equipment?

    Nothing in ANYONE'S line-up compares.:cool::cool:

Best of luck! If it is possible to utilize the 3000's in a 7.1 setup, that would be awesome, and just a little scary:eek:

Just make sure none of the drivers are blown, sound scratchy etc. Listen to them loud if you can because sometimes at lower levels these things aren't as apparent. Let the seller know ahead of time you want to spend some time demoing them. Explain to him parts are no longer avail so you want to make sure. If he balks at the idea or makes a bunch of excuses, walk away.

That would be scary. Although, the SRT's have their own subs built in and the CS1000 also has a sub. Those combined with the SVS make more bass set at 25% volume level than the house can really handle so I'm not sure I really need the RT3000's in the rear. They would be sold to help fund the SRT's if it works out.

I have talked with the owner and he says he is the original owner and he is selling the towers, controller and center speaker. He says they were professionally installed and that they are cosmetically flawless and functionally in good condition. Thoughts on value? $5,500 still seems way excessive.

So no rears or subs or do you mean the towers including the subs? Where are the rears? So out of the entire stock system you are just missing the rears?

    Offer $3500

I thought the towers had subs on the bottom. Are there other subs than those? From the picture on the CL ad, the towers are complete tops and bottoms. Thanks for the good education.

Yes they are on the bottom, but not in the same cabinet as the mid/tweeter drivers.

Ok. We were talking about the same subs then. Thanks for the help. Got to figure out how to demo them. He already sold his amp. Can I take an AVR just to test them or is it more complex? I would drive them with my 150wpc Adcom for starters.
