I just ordered a set of FXi A6's off of polk direct. I don't want to wall mount them, and the stands I use for my RM8's will never work. Any suggestions on some decently priced stands would really help me. I really don't want to spend much and would prefer them to be black.

I've found all kinds of stands at one site and most are below what I expected to pay. The problem is the 6's are 14x9 and none of the stands top plates are close to that size Most of them are 7x7 the biggest I have found is 11x8. How much over hang can I have and the speaker still be fairly stable. I have a 4 year old boy and want to make sure they are not knocked over easy.

Try Sanus as a brand and here for some options... www.racksandstands.com
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'm really wanting to order these stands before my speakers come next wednesday. What is the smallest top plate size I can use with the fxi a6's. The speakers are 13x9, I would really like some advice on this. I've never put bookshelves on stands before and have no idea how small the top plate can be.

The top plate should be close to the dimensions of the loudspeaker for safety. The rest is completely on you but I would recommend that as your guide.

    +1

Especially with a speaker like the FXi's, which aren't square shaped. I'd imagine that could make them a little bit more unbalanced.

I have looked and looked online and haven't been able to find a speaker stand that is close to the size of the speakers. Are there mounting holes in the bottom of the fxi a's?

It looks like I might have to use 2 venter speaker stands.

It looks like bose may be my only answer for this problem. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_018FS01/Bose-FS-01-Speaker-Stands.html?tp=1386&tab=detailed_info

Who would have thought that bose would come to my rescue? These really are not big enough either but they may have to work, because I haven't been able to find anything else close to this size.

Just measured the surface area on my FXi A6s. They could accommodate a stand pad of approximately 7" x 4.5" max, but I would want something a bit smaller so as not to be seen at the edges.

How are speakers attached to their stands?

    Polk CSi A6
    Polk FXi A6s

Here are the stands sandworms made, seem pretty simple.

Being a triangle I think polk's dimensions are the max but the front is much thinner. Also you could attached them to the stand with something like velcro, etc... and weigh down the stand with something heavy like sand and many stands should work alright.

I'm just going to have to wait until they come to see what I'm dealing with. Being the odd shape that they are I hate to buy something now and be screwed when they get here because the stand won't work.

As for building somethin for them, I really don't have the time. I have a store near me that sells over stocked furniture very cheap. I may just look for a couple small matching end tables. I could really use a couple with drawers in them anyway for the room. Someplace to put all of my extra wires would be nice.

    Thanks for the measurement gulf.

That sounds like a perfect solution Bevo...not everything has to be an official speaker stand. You could even add spikes to them as a secret modification....how cool would that be? :)
