Tubes and SDA 1C's

Hey all. I'm poking around the amp world and I'm toying with the idea of getting into tubes to power my SDA-1Cs.
I've got a ton of research yet to do. But I though I'd start here. So far, here are my questions.
How much power do I need? I know that tube wattage is typically lower (without spending used-car-price amounts of money anyway) but how low is OK for running a speaker as large as the 1C?
Who makes (or made) a decent tube amp? The only tube amps that I've ever even seen is a Dynaco ST-70 (which sounded incredible by the way) and a Scott tube integrated amp. Will something like that work for my SDAs or do I need something more exotic?
Kit amps? I consider myself a decent DIYer, and I see a good amount of tube kits available. The question is, which ones are decent and why? What makes one kit good and another not, and what kits would mate well with my SDAs?
Basically I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction.
I don't have a fortune to spend, so if I get into this I'll be looking at used, probably vintage for sure. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I've just committed to buy a disassembled Dynaco ST-70. Others have warned my that I won't be satisfied with them powering my SDA 2Bs, but I gotta know for myself. I've been looking at the various modifications I can find online, and would be interested in any input regarding which one's will really make a difference.

I'm personally looking for a pair of Dynaco MKIIIs to push my SDA 1Cs... I let a pair get away on ebay last week that went for $500.
