LSi9's as fronts and LSi25's as sides
I am considering using a pair of LSi9's as the mains in a 7.2 set up, where I would move my 25's to the sides (a bit to the front of the room). I would keep the LFE lines in on the 25's but hook the top section up as surrounds. I also have an LSiC for center, and a pair of LSi7's for rear channels. the only thing that would run off the receiver for power would be the 7's.

Why are you getting LSi9's for the fronts and the LSi25's as your sides? It's a waste of your LSi25's. Your biggest speakers should be your fronts.
Fronts: Energy RC-70
Center: Energy RC-LCR
Surrounds: Energy Veritas 1.0CM
Subwoofer: SVS PC12-NSD
Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR705
Amplifier: Denon POA-2200 w/ Ben's ICs

A decent point however the 9's and the 25's have the same mid/high driver configuration and with the fact that the subs in the 25's are being used for LFE only I don't know that it matters. The question is whether the 25's have a better quality or different configuration x-over than the 9's that might affect sound output and your overall front stage. Try both and see what works/sounds best (which is the most important thing). It looks like from your signature that you're not running a separate sub and that the subs in the 25's are your only LFE source. If that is the case, placement within your room for optimal bass response is possibly a more important factor in your decision.____________________________________________________________

I have to agree. I do not understand why you would move the Lsi25's. I would keep the 25's as mains and use the 9's for the sides. What is the reason you are doing this?Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,
Yamaha RX-V2500 System, Carver A753 3 channel amp.
Polk HT system 2: , SRT system with f/x 1,000's rear speakers on 7.1 system currently using Onkyo TX-RZ820 receiver, powered by Sunfire Grand Theater amp
Polk Speaker collection: SDA SRS 1.2tl x 2, SRT system, SDA SRS 2 P/B, SDA 2A, SDA 1C Studio, SDA CRS+, Monitor 7B & 4, SRS 3.1tl, RTA 15tl, LS90, LSI 9 -
In taking another look at your signature, it appears you don't own the 9's yet. Is this a purchase you're considering? If so, why not go with the 15's and gain the additional bass for your mains if you are set on moving the 25's?____________________________________________________________

thanks so far for the input - i have updated my sig.
I already own the 9's and feel that they are a bigger speaker sound wise when you are comparing them to the top section of the 25's.
I will try it with the woofer sections on the 25' pointing forward ish (right and left switched)
I tried one of the 9's in place of my LSiC and found that it took over the front sound. dominating even the 25's, and this is what got the thought going.pop

If you like the 9's better, so be it. I would sell the 25's and get another pair of 9's and a good sub.HT SYSTEM-

If you're going to use the 25's sub as a LFE channel, I don't see why it wouldn't work."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

I see nothing wrong with his setup, the top of the LSi25's and the LSi9 are same and bass is essentially non-directional, so why not? It would be like having two powered 10" subwoofers on either side of the room to compliment the mains. I have the sub in my HT (which obviously pales in comparison) away from the front soundstage and I really prefer the sound. It blends way better for movies. I like his idea and would try it myself if I were in his position.
Quick question though, does the .2 in your 7.2 refer to the 25's 10" drivers or do you have other subs? That could change things quite a bit.Home TheaterRTiA5 - CSiA6 - FXiA6 - PSW650 - Pioneer Elite SC-55 - Carver AV-505 - Sony 46" 120Hz - Monster HP 2400 - Xbox 360 - Playstation 32 ChannelPolk RTA 15TL - Harman Kardon HK3485 - HK DVD48 - Signal Cable IC's and speaker cables -
the crosovers are different and the 9's have a wider range for just the top part, but the .2 are the 10"ers in the 25's in my design.pop

The subs in the 25's can no way reproduce the lower bass that a dedicated subwoofer can. Just my opinion but useing the 25's for a side speaker is a waste of coin.HT SYSTEM-

if I like the 9's up front and the 25's as sides, i would most likely add a dsw4000 into the mix.
If not the option of putting the 9's in another room with a dedicated 2 chanel rig for phono is always an option. Or I could us the 9's as surrounds and put the 7's up front as presence speakers up front.pop
