Can a Yamaha HRT-5560 bi-amp new 70's ?

I am borrowing my brother's old Yamaha HRT-5560 while I break in my new Monitor 70's and shop for my own AVR. I can't tell from the manual if I can bi-amp the 70's with the Main A and Main B connections or not. I know the Monitors are 8 ohm, but don't quite follow just yet if the running the amp with A+B channels on will reduce the impedance or otherwise have some negative affect.

Anyone have some advice? Just run the whole monitor as Main A for now?

I had thought that bi-wireing would be if I ran two sets of cables to the left speaker and then connected them both to Main A left. Is this not what bi-wiring is?

I thought Main A and Main B on the Yamaha were effectively two separate front channels, hence two amplified sources, and I could run the tweet/mids as channel A and woofers as channel B.

I have read that thread you talked about yesterday and today some more, and it did not enlighten me enough. Even some google searches didn't resolve the Main A+B question for me. I understand the definition of bi-wired and bi-amped, but am confused as to what the Main A & B channels on the receiver actually put out.

Yea, I'd like to buy some better cables. I'd also like to buy my own AVR first, place my whole setup, and then actually know the length of cables I really need.

    Thanks

No. A and B are from the same amplifiers. This is why you'll effectively be bi-wiring.

Your receiver is 5.1, meaning you have 5 amplified channels, front Left, center, right, and rear left/right.

There are no "extra" amps for a+b.

+3, you won't see much of an improvement, but if you are that curious you could always try iot and see. Worst case scenario you are out the cost of two runs of speaker wire, right?

Using speakers A + B is bi-wiring, unless you have a Zone 2 receiver that can be remapped to use the leftover channels for bi-amping.

Still not true bi-amping, your still using the same amp. Bi-amping is 2 seperate amps for the top and bottom portion of your speaks.

As for the Op's question, yes,run it on speaker A only.

Incorrect, it is biamping. The receiver doesn't have "one" amp. It has one power supply. Higher up the chain yes, you're sharing, but no you're not using one amp. It should be using 4 separate amps with a common power supply.
