Junk email ****

What did I do to make at least 200 people a week think that I need 1) a mortgage; 2) a larger ****; or 3) a prescription? 200 is probably a conservative estimate of the number of junk emails I have to clean out of your home account each week. I've been seriously considering canceling the email address and getting a new one... I could try the system's spam blocker..but that requires cookies and I generally don't like to save any cookies.

Anyway.. just venting a little. I logged onto our email account here at work to clean up so I didn't have to do it from home over a modem.... 37 notes just since yesterday sometime... all right in the trash. Geez.. what a waste of technology and bandwidth.

Ok I learned to get an alternate email address. Like with Yahoo. Then when you have to subscribe to a website, you give the alternate one instead of your home one. Home one goes to friends and family only.

Unless you have AOL, If you have AOL your screwed.

AOL sucks. AOL is like bose, everybody has it because their ads say they are great but they suck. Enhanced by Google? C'mon. Just go to google.com, don't sign up for a crappy ISP because they say they are so wonderful because they have google. It's like saying "Buy a Ford, now complete with rims!" That's just one example. Sorry to vent, but I just wanted to enlighten as many people as I can.

    I'll shut up now.

What you do is gentleman is,
    1) Make an E-Mail Addres
    2) Make that E-Mail address your DEFAULT email address
    3) Make a E-Mail you plan to use for personal use
    4) Keep the one you plan to use regularly away from being the default
In doing this it does what? When you go on websites the website will pick up your DEFAULT email and not your personal one. In doing this your Junk Mail goes from A WHOLE LOT to little to none. Very simple to do, and I have been doing it for the past year, and I only get about 5 junk emails a week, if not less.

RS, I agree, AOL totally blows. Its a program of over 100 search engines grouped together. Its hacker hell, and its easy to freeze and get kicked off of. All the search engine makes it incredibly slow, and with all the search engines it makes it freeze a ell of alot more than it should. Its just garbage.

EDIT: by the way, in using E-Mails, I would particularly use Hotmail E-Mails. Then register them on OUTLOOK, so you have unlimited space, etc. It works very well, and is VERY FREE.

I really like MailWasher. It has some very cool features:

    Free.

It checks the headers of the email while it's still on the server so you can preview them. If it's crap (98% of mine is), you check a box for deletion, or BOUNCE. If you use Bounce, it sends an email back to the spammer saying it's undeliverable and a bad address, AND adds it to your own 'blacklist' of previous spammers so you don't have to do it again. Using 'delete' takes it right off the server without having to download it.

As I have a dial-up at home, it saves me the time of downloading all the crap. And a lot of times I'll get emails from legit people, but don't want to download them, as you can preview the message right on the server. It also tells you the size of the attachments to warn you of those 8MB wav files people from high speed connections send you...

Once you're done reviewing the waiting emails, it deletes/ bounces the ones you selected, then automatically kicks off your normal email program. Slick. It looks like the new version you can only check one POP account, older versions you could check multiple ones.
