Alright, my choices have been pretty much narrowed down to getting a pair of Monitor 12's or a pair of Boston Acoustics VR-960's. I have always wanted a pair of Polk's since I was a kid and my Dad had some SDA's. I was a little late trying to snag a pair of SDA2a's recently. So I am back to looking at the 12's.

I see so many say in reviews that the 12's have muddy bass or the hi end is just not there etc etc. Are these speakers really that bad? Do the mod's really help them that much?

Yes, I am on the fence yet again between these 2 pairs. I have read some bad things about the VR-960's that seem to outweigh the bad I have read about the 12's. Plus the VR's look kinda wimpy to me.

Can someone make this decision for me please?? :D Jus' kidding think I will still go for the 12's anyways. Hopefully will get a listen before xmas.

Any insight? I am not audiophile, best speakers I have ever owned were some Canon TLS towers.

The 12s, from what i've read (i haven't heard a pair) tend to be a little bloated, and it makes sense. The 7s/10s depending on tastes seem to be the sweet spot.

I highly doubt they sound BAD, and if you're looking for a powerful, loud speaker, i imagine they'd be a great choice.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

if the price is good go for the 12s. upgrade the crossovers and tweeters and they will sound great. after the upgrade mine dont sound bloated at all like they did before. i never heard the 7s or 10s. i like my 12s better than my sda crs, not much though. i had a pair of cannon speakers back in the day, they had a passive sub in the back, they seemed to sound pretty good from what i can remember.

^^^^^ +1 ^^^^^ I paid $175b for a pristine pair. Get them on spikes or make a stand like the ones that polk offered and that will help the bloated sound be its self.

Yeah they are decent speakers I think. I am just bored with them. The ones I have are the taller model with the passive in front under the main woofer. What's hurting mine are that I no longer have the original woofers. The surrounds wore out and instead of fixing the surrounds I trashed them and bought replacement woofers. And they never sounded the same since!

Thanks to all the input guys! Looks like this time I may actually get the 12's! But now I got a guy emailing me about a pair of Boston Acoustics VR-970's! Decisions.....decisions....

The 12s are nice speakers. I used mine as fronts for my HT setup. I replaced them with Klipsch Cornwalls but enjoyed them for years. I was less pleased with them in a 2 channel system but never put anytime into a proper setup.
