SDA 1C's

Is this a walk, don't run situation? SDA 1C's for $275 dollars. Pictures attached. There are another pair of SDA 2's (Not sure which, awaiting pictures) that someone may be willing to do a trade for some gear and a little cash for. In your humble opinions, if you had the choice between 1C's and 2's (Not sure 2A, 2B, etc.) which woudl you go for?
Thanks,
James

That's a good price for the 1C. Is this the one in PA that the seller was asking $400 previously?
Well worth $275 for local pickup.Main Gear

Paid $450 for mine a month ago and they are worth every penny. Get over there as fast as you can!....especially before the seller does a google search to find out what he/she has and finds this thread and all the other 1C threads and changes the price on you!____________________________________________________________

I'd buy them, just so I could have the satisfaction of chucking them in a dumpster.
Seriously though...I'm in a twist as to whether I want 1C's or 2B's next. The 1C's are nice...but there are things about the RD0-194's that really bother me. The 2B's can be TL'd, and though I've never heard the 198's, I'd imagine they're a better tweeter. The nirvana inducer-

Curt, not sure why you have such a dislike for the 194 tweet. Yes the "TL" mod for the 2B's is very nice...........but I'd still choose 1C's over TL'd 2B's. The 198 and 194 are similar and I doubt what you dislike about the 194 would make the 198 that much more acceptable.
I know you like the peerless, but until you do a full x-over mod on both, I think your comparison is unfair. If you come up next weekend to get the Adcom, bring some cd's and we'll listen to my 1C's and see what you honestly think about 194's.

Did you fall asleep at the computer. You should be posting pics of these by now. These are some sweet sounding SDA's. I was lucky enough to score this same Studio version for $250. Money well spent I mus say.
Dont let this opportunity pass you by.:( -
Well, I don't have any money. I'm selling gear here to fund these. No bites yet, but the guy said he'd hold them for me for two weeks. I'll keep everyone posted. Once I get the funds, then to find a car (May have to enlist a friend to come) because I don't think these will fit in my Honda Civic.

1C Studios, no doubt. Exactly what I have. Add your RDO tweeters and an xover rebuild. At the price you are looking at, you'll have the mods done and still be less than what some people have paid for an unmodified pair!
Personally, I'd scrape up the cash from anywhere you can. I highly doubt the guy will hold them for 2 weeks especially if others start knocking with cash in hand...For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -

Curt, I will say that I felt my RD0194's on my 1C's were a bit lacking as well. I know what you mean.
Then I removed the poly-switches. WOW! What a huge improvement. F1Nut and others recommend replacing them with a small resistor which I'm sure is great advice as well.
Very easy, only takes a couple of minutes. Try it and see what you think.
Peace. -

Hi all...
I'm about to take Vlam up on his most gracious offer. I need to make sure these are the ones, and am unsure of the questions to ask. Here is the original craigslist offering:
Polk SDA 1C Speakers, good condition, fully functioning. Black with a few minor blemishes in the veneer, I am not going to sharpie marker them and try to hide any marks. Grills are fully intact with Polk emblems and 2 very small holes in the screen, didn't even notice them until I held the screens up to light. Have a homemade interconnect cable for the SDA Effect. Only selling because these are not my taste, back to Klipsch. Emails for pics. Thanks.
Vlam said he may be suspicious of some of the things said. What specifically should I ask the seller? Should I request specific pictures of anything in particular for closer scrutiny? I know it's a great price, but want to make sure they are as good as he said they are. If you were the potential buyer, what would you ask? If Vlam may pick them up, I won't be able to see them (Not that I'd know what to ask if I were), so I need to make sure before I commit.
Thanks so much.

It's not so much that I have a "dislike" for the 194's...it's just that I feel they could be a lot better. Don't take me wrong...the majority of the time I thoroughly enjoy the way they sound...sometimes though, they really leave me wanting.
One thing in particular, is that IMO, they are absolutely terrible at reproducing the sound of a harmonica. They turn it into an overly forward, in your face sounding sonic blast. WAAAAAY too bright. It's gotten to the point where I can't even listen to several of my favorite Bob Dylan albums when I have the SDA's hooked up. They also leave me wanting in the higher registers of the piano...they seem to break up somewhat at higher frequencies.
I will say this much though...Since I switched up my placement a little bit last week, these brightness issues have really tamed down. I'm not having as many problems with it as I was before.Conradicles wrote: »Curt, I will say that I felt my RD0194's on my 1C's were a bit lacking as well. I know what you mean.

I don't think I'm really going to do anything with the XO's in these 2A's. I'm going to hold off until I either get 1C's or 2B's. I wouldn't want to remove the polyswitches yet anyway really, because my amp is only 100 wpc, and I like to listen pretty loud sometimes.:cool:The nirvana inducer-
