Hello all, I just purchased a pair of Monitor 70's from newegg for $169/ea with no tax/shipping. It was to good to pass up.

Couple questions. I have the CS2 for center but what should I do for the rear's? I have M30's there now but I have M20's as well that wont be doing anything except collecting dust in the basement. I dont have room for 7.1 so thats not an option.

Should I just stick with the M30's for the rear's?

Also I have the Onkyo 705 and I am not sure what I should have the settings for the spearkers at. Right now everything is 80hz. Should they be adjusted now I have the M70's?

Thanks for any help

yes definitely stick the 30s for the rears.. they are a better speaker than the 20s'.. you can keep it crossover at 80 if you want.. you can lower it if you want too. the 70's have better full range than the 60s and lower. Its really up to you on what you feel sounds right.. 80 is a safe place to keep it though...

I have pretty much the same setup. I have all my speaker settings at 80 and it works great. I have the LFE at 120. I used to have Monitor 40's for my mains and sold them for OWMs for placement purposes only. I think the 30's will sound great and the system really shines for HT. What sub do you have?

    TV: Samsung LN40A550
    Mains: Polk Monitor 70's
    Center: Polk CS2
    Surrounds: Polk OWM3's
    Receiver: Onkyo TX sr705
    BDP: Sony S350
    Subs: Velodyne VRP1200 and VRP1000
Monster Power Conditioner EP IR 2450

LOL I took advantage of the same deal! Best NEW speakers for the money IMHO and more I listen to them, the more I like them. Either my ears are getting more accustomed to the their sound or the further "breaking in" is making them sound better. Either case, it's money well spent.

Anyway, I think the 30's would certainly be a better match for the 70's. 80Hz should be good, but you might want to try 60Hz to take advatage of the 70's better lower end.

I have mine crossed over at 80hz...but run the system off my Onkyo with the Double bass engaged so that the L/R M70s can play their full range which is close to 40hz (the crossover only affects the surrounds).

Then there is the school that believes it is best to just crossover everything at 80 or so and let a GOOD sub takeover from there since that frees up more POWER to ALL other SPEAKERS!

Not all receivers all for this though....
