Well I'm now hearing rumors that arson is on the list of possible causes for this fire this morning on the R5:

    http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local-beat/SEPTA-Train-on-Fire-69064652.html

Funny how a bitter strike starts and a train that has had zero problems all of a sudden turns in to a gigantic blaze that shuts down the entire line.

I was thinking the same thing when I heard that on KYW this morning. Good thing people moved to another car when they first saw smoke and got out of there-I'm glad nobody got hurt in that.

Luckily my wife called me before I left and told me 76 was all backed up (worse than usual) and to take a back way. Seems like there was a lot of things going on, The strike, the R5 fire, and "oh hey lets shut down a lane of 76 during rush hour and do some construction".

Wasn't painting all unions with the same brush....if that was directed at me. Hell,if anyone around here has stuck up for the good unions,it has been yours truely. Been a union guy for decades my friend, but here in chicago, you can't change a lightbulb unless your union. Too much power in the hands of too few,and you get corruption.....ring a bell with any of you?

No not directed at anyone directly. I'm close enough that I see some of the Chicago stuff you're talking about.

I wonder what made people organize in the first place? Employers have always had safety first for the employee, raises so the employee could have a decent living wage, vacations so they could travel and rest for a couple of weeks with their families.
Working conditions, and wages were just fine before Unions. Why would they have to resort to Organized Labor? I'll never know...

Maybe so, in some occupations. Many though, would not see the wage they have today if not for organized labor. Do you think a nurse would spend all that time and money for schooling to make 12 bucks an hour ? You think iron workers would go up 50 stories without safety proceedures in place ? The greed part, way back when, affected the owners of companies who sought out cheap labor, but now that same greed has affected unions as well. What do you think drove people to organize in the first place ? You think it was becouse they were happy with their wages and job safety ? Oh well, this is a very detailed topic that can get pretty deep so I'll leave it at that.

He has to make a comment like that since the Twins are so bad.

I would have expected that comment from someone in NY, not MN.

Dude, really, don't propagate it. Yankees fans are insufferable as it is. No need to fuel the fire.

If you want to bash, bash Fox Sports for putting those tools Joe Buck and Tim McCarver in the broadcast booth and Ken Rosenthal on the field. The only thing worse than the officiating in the World Series was awful game calling and commentary by Buck and McCarver. I mean, McCarver called Derek Jeter "Jerek Deter" and then he corrected himself and said "Sorry, I mean Jerek Deter". I don't care how long that douchenozzle Buck has been doing it, he belongs nowhere near the game calling microphone in baseball. And McCarver...he's either showing his age (like 68 I think) or he should be ashamed of himself. He had a 21 year baseball career and even ended his playing days with the Phillies in 1980 when they won the World Series. He's as much of a student of the game as any broadcaster. His effort as well as Buck's were awful and insufferable. I had the TV muted and the radio tuned in to the broadcast just so I wouldn't have to listen to them.

I loathe McCarver with every fiber of my being. But then again, he's had it out for the Braves ever since Deion Sanders plugged him with a cream pie nearly fifteen years ago. Seriously... let it go.

I don't remember him being nearly as annoying when he broadcasted for the Mets on WWOR.

He used to broadcast with Richie Ashburn and Harry Kalas for the Phillies when I was a kid. Whitey used to razz him constantly for his gaffs. He didn't last long. Left in like 1982 I think it was? I was still real young, not even in grade school. But I remember my grandfather ranting to Whitey himself about it at a game we went to when I was like 6. (Ashburn's family lived next door to my grandfather's sister, he knew him well enough to say hi after games when Ashburn and Kalas would come down to the field for pictures and interviews. My grandfather had season tickets in 300 sections along 1st base). I remember Whitey saying he was glad to be rid of that useless SOB.

Even Family Guy cut up Tim McCarver.

And I thought it was "Neon" Deion dumping water on his head after a championship game celebration. He did it like 3 times and McCarver flipped out yelling "You're a REAL man!" or something like that?

You got it. That was freakin' hilarious. And he REALLY holds it against the Braves after all these years. Douchetastic! Sorry for the slight derail...

Same here, but next season looks REALLY good for the Bravos. The starting rotation may very well be the one of the best the franchise has ever had (Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Avery being the obvious number one).

We'll see. I don't think the Braves have the offense needed to compliment the pitchers they have. Maybe they make some acquisitions in the off-season to bolster their bats.

On the other end, the Phillies are retaining most everybody from the lineup this season. Meyers is the only one I can think of whose contract ends this week. Everybody else is signed to multi-year deals and the next expiration of a contract for one of the "core team" guys is up in 2011.

If the Braves end up being better than I am expecting, I think they are going to have to get past the Phillies to get anywhere. The Marlins are also keeping many of their big bats too and they will be tough to beat.

I hope the Dodgers and Rockies implode though. I'm sick of seeing them year after year. Although I hope that at some point Joe Torre can take the Dodgers to a series against the Yankees, kick the crap out of the Yankees and then march right up to Steinbrenner and his "Steroid Machine" Yankees and tell them EXACTLY where they can go! That would be awesome!

If you want to take it that way, sport, it's on you.

I just don't see what's so hard about using a search engine of any kind since every major browser comes with a link to at least one if not multiple search engines embedded. You don't even have to use the keyboard. Double click on the word and your browser will highlight it. Right click it and select copy and then right click in the search box and click paste. Then click search. You do more activity picking your nose.

Besides, if I take the time to do everybody's learnin' for them and then post the learnin' as well as what I'm complainin' about, you all say I'm long-winded.

But now I'm being accused of believing I'm better than everyone else because I expect people to do a teesy bit of research if they don't know.

But I'm supposed to go easy. Riiiight.

    Google's you're friend. Use it.

Now it's clear why you're considered an "A"hole around here.......you're from Filthadelphia and you have the snotty attitude that's so prevalent in that town. Stick septa AND Google where the darkness smells bad. Jerk:rolleyes:
