Monitor 50's or 40's for surrounds
Just bought some Monitor 60's for fronts and I am wondering if I should get the 50's or 40's for the back surrounds. After buying the stands for the 40's they will probably be close to the same price. The only thing I wonder is if the 50's will be "high" enough to serve as surrounds since you can't really raise them like the 40's or does this even make a difference?
TIA for any help.

I use 50's for surrounds and they work fine. I built little riser boxes to get them to clear the back of my couch. If I didn't already have them (they were my front L/R for a short time) I would probably have gone with something I could mount on pivoting wall mounts, most likely 40's. The 50's sound great though. I am very happy with them as surrounds.

vc69 points out the main problem with using M50s as surrounds...you need space and you may need to 'raise' them up! So it might be better to just use M40s and put them on stands or something so you can get their tweeters a bit above ear level?
The specs are close enough that you won't notice much of a difference if you have a GOOD sub!

+1 on what has been said. If you can make the 50's work, then give it a shot. If not, get the 40's and a few stands and call it a day. I have the 40's in my HT and they sound great. Congrats on the 505, best value sub Polk has out there right now, IMHO. Did you get it for the sale price of $229.99? They ran a 24 hr sale on it, I posted a link in the clubhouse with the coupon code. Welcome to Club Polk.

Hi, thanks and yes I got the sub during the 24 hour sale. Was just about to buy it anyway and then that sale happened along.:) I have about made up my mind to get the 40's and stands and I had another thread about the M60's I got about a week ago and the center channel I should get. I was trying to fit it on my mantle and asking about the cs-10 etc. I have decided to put it below the mantle on a stand and go with the CS2.
So, my set-up will be...
FR- Monitor 60's
C- CS2
Sur- Monitor 40's
Sub- 505
I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-03 to feed them. I can't wait to get everything but I know I missed out on that deal on the CS2 so I have a couple of more questions....
1. Should I wait for anothe deal on the CS2 and do the 40's go any lower than what they are on Newegg right now?
2. Anyone have some CC and surround stand recomondations? My setup:
Pioneer VSX-03
Polk CS2: center
Polk Monitor 60: fronts
Polk Monitor 40's: L+R surround
Polk 505: sub -
I have the 40's for rear they like to have some power going to them but they work well either way. Very good imaging for what they are.HT setup

Sounds like you are on your way to a darn good HT setup. Have you thought about the Monitor 70's? For the prices they go for these days, IMHO they are a better value than the 60's. If not then the setup you described will work fine together. Good choice going with the CS2, do whatever you need to do in order to make that work, it is a way better center than the CS1. As for waiting on the CS2, it does go on sale at Newegg sometimes, but at $149.99 it is still a great deal. I haven't seen the 40's go on sale very often, so I think that is the lowest price you will get them for. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I was wondering if I should get monitor 40's or tsi200 or RTi4. I am looking for them as rear surround speakers. I am kinda budget in mind but will pay more for a much better speaker. I see on new egg you can get monitor 40's for 129.99. The tsi200 I can't find under 300. Is it worth over double the price?Rti10's - Front Speakers

One bit of advice though, don't ask the same question in every topic. One is just fine, we will see it, lol.
