Just got the results of my sleep study back on Friday and according to the Dr. I have "Moderate Sleep Apnea" I had an average of 18 apneas an hour, and each episode lasted for an average of 20 seconds. I have to go get a CPAP machine today, and between this and my cornea transplant I have to have done on the 16th of November, I am breaking down kinda early, I'm only 33, lol. But on a positive note, the Sleep Apnea is 50% disability when I get out of the Air Force, lol. Guess there is always a silver lining.

That sucks Jeff. I'm only 39 and the list of my health issues is a long one. This audio adiction doesn't help either. Well I guess it gives me something not very physical to do and it keeps my mind busy.
    Take care of yourself.

Best of luck to you. I have severe sleep apnea (several hundred per hour and 60% blood oxygen level) and have used a CPAP machine for the last 8 years. It saved my life. Be glad you were diagnosed early. The machine should increase your quality of life significantly and you will be amazed at how good you feel when you get up in the morning.

Hell, I'm 66 with stage 2 diabetes, bad knees, a wound from Nam in 65 that still gives me boatloads of pain (on methadone for that). Wife who is 67 has 20% of heart muscle (Dr says that she got a virus when she was a toddler and it stayed in the body to do the damage to the heart) that works and due to that only gets 20% of oxygen to the body, has to use oxy tank all the time and has sleep apnea, also fibermylogia with chronic pain. But through it all life is still good and a good day is one where we wake up in the morning. At least we have a granddaughter that is a ND and she gives us free advice when we ask.

    Cheers, Bill

The bottom line is that I think that it is neat that we all can discuss issues via the internet even though we all are located in diff parts of North America. This wasn't possible to this extent 20 years ago.

For those who think it is just about getting old...it's not. I've had a couple of physical issues over the years (a serious accident when I was young and lost a kidney, sleep apnea, a few knee surgeries), I smoked 3 packs a day for while (quit 22 years ago), never wore glasses until my late 40s...but now I'm in my mid 50s and in pretty good health. I'm a few pounds heaver than I would like to be, but I play golf and carry my clubs in East TN where there are lots (and lots) of hills, I hike regurlarly in the Appalachian Mtns. as much as 14 miles in a day with elevation changes of 3,000 ft. ± and do a little kayaking with my daughter. These are things I probably could not have done in my early/mid 40s for various reasons. In the last few years I have made it a priorily to get in better shape and it is paying off. There is no reason you can't overcome most of these issues and be in good health and physical condition for a long time.

Jeff - Again, I think you will be pleasantly supprised at how well a CPAP machine will improve your sleep and your overall well-being. I know I was.

I just turned 43, I have had moderate asthma since I was 10, fortunatley modern meds have kept under control for the most part, my elbow hurts when it gets cold from pitching when I was in high school and I have one helluva bone spur in my left foot arch that damn near makes it impossible to walk first thing in the morning. My wife has had 2 disc's replaced in her neck and she's only 38, with more back discomfort from her first husband beating her..(****). Sounds like we are all falling apart...best of luck to all of us!

The CPAP is a pain at first but if Sleep Apnea is impacting your quality of life you will love it. You will be well rested, have energy and will not snore.

Yeah, I have a few friends who have sleep apnea and they said the CPAP has helped a lot. Thanks Shack and smith for the encouragement on the CPAP, I'm not looking forward to it, but I know I need to use it if I want to start feeling better. Knowing other people who have used it sucessfully makes me feel much better about it.

Everyone I know who has used that machine for apnea swears by it. Claims they feel more refreshed and awake...as for me...you guys are all a bunch of youngsters....40s and 30s? I took the sleep test because I've spent most of my life being unable to feel fully awake in the morning and that includes when I was a kid..

The results...No sleep apnea.....and here I was hoping for a reprieve...a sign that my snoring was waking me up...no chance...so I continue to stumble into consciousness each and every day. It's like a guy who's been popped in a football game. But I'm fine after about a half hour or so.

So as someone says above, it's not always 'age'.
