i would recommend the upgrade. Just do it in steps. Start with the rdo tweets, if you like what you hear, send ben your x-over and let him work his magic with new caps and resistors. Then you could step up to a better ic.

My 3.1's have received all of those upgrades (ricardo did all the work!) and i am very happy with the results.

thankyou for replie. How do i get in touch with ben?

You have so many threads going on this topic that I feel like an ADD rat in a maze on LSD. :)

Both the 2.3TL and 3.1TL are fine speakers. the 3.1TL is actually a newer design by almost a year.

I don't know if cash is a concern for you, but the difference of 2 total RDO198-1's in the 3.1TL system versus 6 in the 2.3TL is a $200+ difference. The higher value caps in the low pass of the 3.1TL crossover may cause modification costs to be similar even though the 2.3TL crossovers have more total parts to replace.

One factor you may not have considered is the sonic difference between a single point source (1 tweeter per cabinet as in the 3.1TL) versus progressive point source (multiple tweeters per cabinet like the 2.3TL).

My experience has been that while treble dispersion is a bit better, the multiple tweeter systems are a tiny bit "phasier" sounding (if that is a word), whereas the single point source TL's display an almost absolute pinpoint focus.

I think the 3.1TL's are also a little more efficient and will certainly fill a large room with top notch sound.

P.S.: You can catch Ben by PM'ing ben62670. He's done some nice mods for me. Others in the group are available too, I just happen to be familiar with Ben.
