What to do when you encounter a 'Peace Activist'

With all of this talk of war, many of us will encounter "Peace Activists" who will try and convince us that we must refrain from retaliating against the ones who terrorized us all on September 11, 2001, and those who support terrorism.

These activists may be alone or in a gathering.....most of us don't know how to react to them. When you come upon one of these people, or one of their rallies, here are the proper rules of etiquette:

1. Listen politely while this person explains their views. Strike up a conversation if necessary and look very interested in their ideas. They will tell you how revenge is immoral, and that by attacking the people who did this to us, we will only bring on more violence. They will probably use many arguments, ranging from political to religious to humanitarian.

2. In the middle of their remarks, without any warning, punch them in the nose.

3. When the person gets up off of the ground, they will be very angry and they may try to hit you, so be careful.

4. Very quickly and calmly remind the person that violence only brings about more violence and remind them of their stand on this matter. Tell them if they are really committed to a nonviolent approach to undeserved attacks, they will turn the other cheek and negotiate a solution. Tell them they must lead by example if they really believe what they are saying.

5. Most of them will think for a moment and then agree that you are correct.

6. As soon as they do that, hit them again. Only this time hit them much harder. Square in the nose.

7. Repeat steps 2-5 until the desired results are obtained and the idiot realizes how stupid of an argument he/she is making.

8. There is no difference in an individual attacking an unsuspecting victim or a group of terrorists attacking a nation of people. It is unacceptable and must be dealt with. Perhaps at a high cost.

We owe our military a huge debt for what they are about to do for us and our children. We must support them and our leaders at times like these. We have no choice. We either strike back, VERY HARD, or we will keep getting hit in the nose.

It depends. Some people who oppose the war think that force is justified if you are directly attacked. Or they think that diplomacy should have gone on longer. They may be wrong, but my point is that opponents of the war do not agree on everything, anymore than supporters of the war agree on everything.
I am not a peace activist & have not participated in any demonstrations. I don't plan on doing so. I am not an unconditional pacifist, & I like my friend Mr Spyderco, who is almost alway with me. In answer to the question "Who do you trust, Bush or Saddam?", I answer, "neither". If I were to choose to participate in a demonstration against the war & you did that to me, I'd slit you from crotch to throat. But I suspect that you would much rather beat up on people who talk about turning the other cheek. I'm impressed with your patriotism.

Well, if you don't endorse it, don't post it. Now you backpedal, call me a psycho, even though I only stated that I would defend myself IF attacked. Oh well. If you're going to post that stuff & then backpedal, maybe you should go be a peace activist.

Here's an interesting link, well worth a look.

    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/iraq/

Now that the war has started, the only positive thing to do is support the service men and women who are involved for a quick and low casualty war. There's no going back now.

I, by no means what so ever support Saddam and it will be for the good of world once he's gone.

I do question Bush's motivation behind this war and why there hasn't been anything done with North Korea who poses a bigger threat at this time.

Anyway, I didn't want to get into this whole war thing because it is obviously a very touchy subject. If anyone wants to judge or attack my character go ahead, that's your right as it is mine, only I won't respond because it's not worth it.

The U.S. is Canada's biggest friend and I hope our position of not lending support efforts in this war won't change our relationship. We are supportive in the war on terrorism and will also support in the rebuilding of Iraq.

My thoughts go out to the service men and women including fellow clubpolky Troyd. Good luck....stay safe.

Without commenting directly either way on the rest of your response to Russ - I carried a Spyderco Endura PlainEdge for years until I busted the lock mechanism one day with probably only 35 pounds of weight. Granted, I'm hard on my knives, but I lost a little faith in Spyderco that day. They stood behind it and gave me a new one, which I promptly gave to my girlfriend.

I bought a Cold Steel Voyager Extra Large Clip Point straight edge and haven't looked back. This knife can take 120 pounds on the lock and is built like a tank. It handles any cutting chore I throw at it and laughs. It holds an edge very well and I can shave with it after sharpening. Despite its formidable size, it carries very well clipped to the pocket.

Like American Express - I don't leave home without it.

No - hence my qualifier "without commenting directly either way on the rest of your response to Russ". I just wanted to slightly derail the thread and make some aside comments about my experience with Spyderco knives.

If I simply had to comment on the subject of righteous (i.e., legal, moral, and ethical) use of deadly force: Simply being socked in the nose alone is not justification - legally, morally, or ethically - for responding with deadly force. I think you would find yourself in jail for manslaughter in this case.

If there were other exigent circumstances - like being socked in the nose was just the beginning of an imminent gang beating by 2 guys half your age and twice your size - then yes - a pre-emptive response with deadly force is justified and defendable in court.

Generally deadly force is justified only when there is an imminent or actual threat of grave bodily injury or death - either to yourself or to an innocent third party.

As with many things in life - the devil is in the details.
