Hello everyone,

I am a lifelong owner of various models of Polk speakers, I recently acquired a pair of SDA 1A's. Got em at a price I just could not refuse, anyhow I powered em up and everything sounds good. They seem to be power hungry tho, can anyone recomend a good amp for these?

Thanks in advance..

Yep, Ive already referred to the other thread as he just posted a new one for amp suggestions :D i borrowed a parasound at 125wpc, and then my moscode came in. I will never go back to solidstate for my 2chan unless its a Class A high quality amp, but thatll cost some serious coin.

Mine don't seem power hungry. I have them running on a 150wpc into 8ohm Carver Receiver and they are plenty loud with the volume dial at 10 o'clock. There are some people who have SDA 1's running on far less watts and they seem to do fine. It's really another one of those "personal preference" deals.

In regards to that, there are simply TOO many variables to determine "how many watts" is suitable. There are some Class A amps at about 15 watts per chan that'll easily push these, and loud. It all depends really at what amps we're looking at.

Tell me how the Jolida sounds, I was told to pick one up when I was on a budget but scored a sick deal on my moscode. I don't regret buying it one bit as it makes my speakers siiiiiiiiiiing

Excellent. Who is running the dimensional Tweeters? About 3 months ago I decided to go with just the stereo Tweets when I upgraded the XO's. This saved me some coin on the Caps since I only used Sonicaps on the Tweets and Solens on the shunt caps. I lowered the value on the resistors to bring up the highs and I think I'm still satisfied, although sometimes I wonder about what the sound would be like with the demensional tweets hooked up again.....

It's subjective. Mine are bone stock and like the way they sound with the dims running. Maybe it's just "synergy" between the components that I like. I have heard the upgrade X-overs and liked that as well. A different perspective of the same beauty.....I can't tell you what you like..;)
    Enjoy the ride.

Thanks for all the advice fellas, I am currently using a Yamaha MX800U on these. I don't really feel this amp is able to drive these (not terribly happy with the "punch" of the amp).

I just picked the speakers up a couple of weeks ago and haven't had time to look into a proper amp for them. That is until I re-joined Club Polk and came out of my shell about asking questions. I am looking into buying the Adcom GFA55 now..

While I have some of your attentions, could someone point out a good pre-amp for the Adcom?

I also just seen someone post about a pair of 1A's for $80 in Cali, damn, I didn't pay that little for them. Even if they are in need of repair that is such a steal.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys (and quite possibly gals).

Not to many people get achance to buy those at that price! I bought mine from the original owner for $330 and thought I got a great deal. I have a set of SDA-1A's with the SL2000 tweets and love'em! They are very efficient, but really don't come alive until you get some serious power to them. I thought I got a set of SRS-2's the other week, but he backed down once he saw how much shipping was gonna be...very sad! but still happy with the 1A's, so I can wait for another set of SRS closer to Ohio. I don't think it's top of the line, but I am very happy with my Gemini PA-7000 Pre-Amp you can pick up new for $100...I am sure there's better out there though, just saying what works well for me.
