I've got this thing hooked up to an SC-05 via hdmi. I do NOT have a hd tv, so I'm letting the rcvr. adjust the video to components. The problem is, the bdp manual only says how to set up via a tv, not how to set up via rcvr.???
I've designated the hdmi1 connection on the rcvr, and all it says is 'stereo'
No matter what button I push on the bdp remote, nothing happens?
Any help is appreciated.:o

Make sure HDMI audio out is set to off on the reciever. Are you sure your reciever will downconvert HDMI to component? Some won't, an HDCP thing. Also make sure in the Pio's setup that it is not set to 2 channel audio.

Good point there WilliamM2, I don't think my Yammy 663 will downconvert HDMI to component either.

I looked at the upconvert diagram, and it WON'T downconvert from hdmi. I thought it would. I finally figured out that I needed to install an S-vid. connection to look at the menu's.

But, here's the problem NOW. Since I don't have a tv. w/ hdmi connections, I'll have to do component, and ???? what for surround audio? BRD won't do surround over optical, will they? Or can I use the hdmi for just audio?

I'm already using the 8 ch. analogs in on the rcvr. for my SACD player.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Blu-Ray will play surround over optical, just not the lossless codecs, it will play DD, or DTS, still at a higher bitrate than SD DVD's. Component will work for video, it will just limit it to 1080i, although without an HDTV, it will probably be 480i.

Yes, you can pass audio via fiber optic, the receiver will downconvert the DTS-HD track to standard DTS and the same with DD.

If you have the SC-05 with the Pio, you should be able to just pass the audio over HDMI, and video out using component or lower res video input.

My bad, I should have read the full post, didn't even see he was using an SC-05. As Sherard said, pass your video via component and audio via HDMI to your 05 that way you can take advantage of the new audio formats.

From the owners manual:"Audio is NOT output from the hdmi if S-video, composite or component is selected." Do you believe this crap!

    So... I think this'll work: Bdp>hdmi>SC-05>hdmi/dvi adaptor cable>tv?
I really hate to be this close to some highdef audio, and fall short because of a <4 year old tv.:o

Monoprice has the cable I'm looking for for $7, so not a huge add'l. expense.

Look under the couch, start collecting and saving up coins for the new screen my man, you definitely won't regret it. Besides I do this all the time myself, you'll never imagine how quickly the coins add up.

I have a coin jar- those are for a set of DT STS's! I could care less about the the PQ.
Hell, I don't even like movies for the most part. I bought this thing to listen to concert dvd's, with the best available SQ.
