To show my ignorance....what kind of tweeter is that, I assume between the 2 mids? It seems to be a 360 degree omni-directional? Is it electrostatic...ribbon?

Just wondering. I can imagine that that baffle-less design has a pretty open and unimpeded radiation pattern....

And, hey, they're not that 'bad' looking. They look pretty cool with the grills 'on'?

"Perhaps Anthony Gallo’s crowning achievement, the patented CDTII™ tweeter (used in the Reference 3 loudspeaker) builds on the renowned CDT™ tweeter to reach new highs in high frequencies. The CDTII™ is made up of a diaphragm membrane fashioned from Kynar™, a cutting-edge aerospace plastic. This diaphragm is then polarized with pure silver because of its high conductivity and reliability, to which high-quality, oxygen-free copper wires are attached. Finally, the diaphragm assembly is tightly wrapped around a rigid compliant core with a perforated steel center. This inner core acts as attenuation for the driver's backwave and provides restorative force.

Unlike conventional drivers, the CDTII™ doesn't use voice coils or magnets. Instead, a matching transformer passes the signal across and contracts the conductive surface of the diaphragm, which expands the CDTII™, allowing cylindrical radiation patterns. The result is unparalleled high-frequency performance. "

    Ricardo,

All I can say is wow! That's a pretty sophisticated design and a well-known innovator in Gallo.

    Enjoy those!

Yeah! Very Intriguing Design. Using Sphere / Cylindrical design seems to have a difference resonance properties from box types. Nonetheless, Box is a chamber and so are they with the exception of there is no front baffle. :)

Probably a big reason why Mapleshade sells them. Goes with all their other unique designs.

:D I gotta ask...:D Recently, you've mentioned Mapleshade quite a few times....Any chance you are holding Mapleshade shares? Or are you getting discounts on their products?

It's not that they don't make good products...Some Good, Some OK, Some So So....But do tell....Inquiring minds want to know why...:D

I have spent $$$ on their stuff, and I love the results. Other than that, as an ex-Marylander, it is nice to support a Maryland company. If you like I can plug the local hardware store where I purchased my previous speaker wire.

Now, what about all the MIT cable supporters, are they being paid by MIT?

No, no need to plug your local hardware store where you purchased the speaker wire. It'll be DANGEROUS!

What else you bought from Mapleshade that gives you a good result. Do Share! I know about CD polishing and a couple of things you mentioned before.

I received their catalog one day, and starting wondering about their products, especially the speaker wire and ICs, since they are so “different”.

For whatever reason, I have always been 143 degrees out of phase with the rest of the world, so their ideas appealed to me. After finally deciding to try a higher priced speaker wire, I went with their wire. It was reasonably priced, $400 for 8’, so I purchased that, and a 1 meter digital SPDIF cable, also $400.

First I installed the digital IC, replacing the stock Wadia IC, and was immediately impressed with how the sound improved. Two weeks later (to give myself time to adjust to the new IC) I installed the speaker cables, and had a comparable improvement in the sound. While there probably are other cables that are even better, I feel I achieved some very good results for “only” $800.

If I ever try something different and it works better you can be assured I will mention it.

After that I purchased two 4” maple speaker stands (not worth the money IMO), and the CD/DVD polishing goo, which does seem to work, especially for the price.

Currently, I have 5 analog ICs, and 5 more speaker wires, for my HT upgrade, but I have not yet installed them, so I cannot comment on whether they make the HT better or not. But, I am betting they will.

    I'm not surprised.

From my limited experience with a Wadia digital IC, I would strongly recommend to anyone using it to try something else. For whatever reason, the Wadia cable chokes the music. The improvement when changing to another brand was not subtle.

Wow! I am interested to know how the digital cable chokes music from digital streaming. Since I am not familiar with the Wadia (device) in discussion, is it for the connection using Fiber Optics cable or the Co-axial cable?

    Breaking in right now :D

Yes, even though they are "used", they had never been out of the box. Brand spanking new.

My room is 10x13. First time I hear this kind of bass in that room. Solid, low, fast.
Highs are a bit harsh but that's expected until they break in, which is 200 hrs (great material here for naysayer taggers....)

Still getting used to the looks.....but they do look good. Have not yet put any effort in positioning. Need to find a place for the Maggies and that sub will go on the back of my HT.

By the way George, have you counted the leaves in your trees? It is absolutely critical that one of them has an odd number and the other one an even number. If both odd or both even it sounds like crap.

I'm loving these Gallos. Most balanced top to bottom speaker I've heard. Highs are already smoother and I can't help but smile when those woofers slam my chest with pounding bass.

Soundstage a bit shorter than with the Maggies, but I already knew this is the one thing that could be improved on these speakers, and people just get them higher with custom bases or just using anything appropriate. It really doesn't bother me, but I'll try raising them with something just to see what I like best.

Other than that, just enjoying the music.

Yes Curt; One 10" woofer on each speaker. Right now pointing to the walls, though I've heard that you can get more bass if you place them pointing to each other. Will have to try that too. There's also an extra set of binding posts to connect another amp to a second voice coil in the woofers. This gets the bass go as low as 22 Hz. Not something I need for two channel, and definitely not in this room.

22hz...and only one 10' in each speaker. Now that's impressive...! It would seem that you would need two coupled 10s in each to do that? But I'm not a sound engineer after all.

BTW they look really nice, better than the original pictures once set up in your room. The trees and the amp help of course.

And I haven't yet seen a naysayer to the FACT that ALL speakers need a reasonable break-in period?

Is that 'yet' another troll thread we have to look forward to?

    That's what I figured.

22hz? That's damn impressive...but like you said, not really necessary in a 2 channel rig in that small of a room.

Those speakers have a very interesting design...I'm not sure if I like them or not. It's very unique. They definitely have a lot of "wow factor".
