Overhill Farms, a major food-processing plant in the L.A. area, terminates more than 200 employees after an IRS audit finds that they had provided 'invalid or fraudulent' Social Security numbers.

It is possible to get a SSN for very little money all over the Los Angeles area. Some of these people are upset, crying racism! Maybe this story can help reverse this. Kudos to Overhill Farms for terminating those with fake SSN's and hiring people with valid papers/SSN's. A step in the right direction.

I guess you could call them undocumented Immigrants instead of Illegal aliens to ease the minds of these people, and we could call drug dealers unlicensed pharmacist's as well.

I don't know about that. There was a similar story here in Michigan a couple of years ago, turns out, it was the cherry processing plant that sold them the fake SS cards in the first place!

And nobody wins. Somewhere some poor SOB is getting an IRS audit for that
"second job" they weren't filing taxes on. We can't have random people showing
up to work. We aren't Mexico. We can't solve the 3rd world's problems. Hell, we
can't even solve our own. The people at the plant knew they were breaking the
rules. And now they pay the price. Tough crap.
With all the other people losing jobs in America right now, it's hard to
work up much sympathy for them. Create a program to allow for
expedited green card/citizenship That's what government needs to do.
And to those who knowingly employ them, fine the snot out of them.
To those with fake credentials, detain and deport. I'm all for allowing
more people in to do these jobs. BUT THERE WILL BE A PROCESS.
Hiding our head in the sand does nothing to fix the problem.

It doesn't surprise me that they're ONLY charging the co. with racism, and NOT the IRS, or 'Turbo-Tax-Tim'.

In the article they quote one person complaining that her SSN was "ok for 19 years and now its not?" This mentality just fries my ****!

Just because you have been guilty of using a fake SSN for years does not mean it suddenly ok, and if someone calls you on it they are racist?

    BS!

You are either legal or you are not. I don't care where you came from or what color you are.

Cry me a river. They should have come over legally, if they had they would have provided the proof & still have a job.

With the current Homeland Defense chief, the former Governor of the gateway to America, give me a break. Next year try putting someone else's SS# on your tax return and see how far you get. They will be knocking on your door the next day.

Stupid assed management. You don't bulk hire unless everything checks out on the individual by individual basis, Uncle Sam wise, with the credentials. I've hired and had to feel like a racist because it was encumbant to avoid hassles on my end by asking "do you have a green card?"

Had I failed to, then things could have gotten very **** on my end of things had there been a blow up. It's a very touchy topic when to ask re. immigration credentials concerning a job candidate. I'm not racist in the least, but have to take care of how backlash may affect me too....

The illegals caused the issue not you. You shouldn't have to apologize for being a racist because you are not. You are just abiding by the law and no the law is not racist. Unfortunately most of the illegals are Mexican so it only makes sense to ask Mexicans if they have a green card.

What is amazing to me is that since some of these workers have been here a decade or more they feel its unfair that they are not allowed to continue to work illegaly. They now feel entitled. As far as im concerned the company that hired you should have to pay for your deportation.

I understand there are jobs that would stand little chance of getting enough workers if it wasnt for these people willing to work them but get a temp work permit then apply for citizenship or get the hell out.

I certainly dont blame these people for wanting to better there lifes by working in america if I lived there I would most likely want to come here also but do it legally.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

All of these positions were filled right away with legal workers. There is no shortage.

Perhaps not for these particular jobs, but trust me there are lots of jobs out there that wouldndt get done unless the companies did one of two things either raise the pay scale thereby rasing the price of the product or by hiring illegal aliens who are willing to work for subpar wages. It is sad but entirely true.

Umm, no asking that question doesn't make you a racist, it just means you are complying with the law in order not to get into trouble yourself.

Personally, I call that SMART! If I saw on a job application that they weren't born here, I'd be asking for proof of being here legally right off the bat.

They have commited 2 crimes (illegal entry and fraud) and want people to feel sorry for them and label those who caught them as racist, ****.

Illegal immegrants are nothing more than economic terrorists, it is about time they are treated that way. They should deported within 24 hours. There is no need for a trial because they should receive no rights, they are illegal.
