The M70's are a good speaker at their normal price. At $179 shipped they are a steal. Newegg may/most probably will have them back at that price.

Even if they are the cherry or maple, you can always primer and paint them:D

I have a third buddy that I have hooked up with a 5.1 setup of the Monitor series from Newegg. Great bang for the buck.

How big of an upgrade was it? I loved my R50s. Great speaker at a great price on the used market. Got them from someone on here for $100 for the pair i think.

to my limited experince with the speakers and overall in audio they provide a much fuller sound. i had them playing 2ch and already i can hear things in recordings i have never heard before. i also noticed i can play them louder without losing anything if that makes sense?the r50s to me were bright in my opinion

If anyone is interested in a pair of M70 in cherry, I know where I you get some for $250.00 and the condition is 8.5/10. Of course it would have to be local pickup (Richmond Virginia). I saw them this morning and they look and sound great. They are not mine but thought I would just throw this out there if anyone around my area was looking.

Yes, i do remember having to turn down the treble a bit on my Adcom to compensate. It wasn't harsh bright, just too much.

The midrange i felt, was great on those speakers, though.

The Paradigms i replaced them with seem to be more balanced, though, even if they don't seem to handle quite the same volumes with ease.

As I alluded in my previous post, when I had my daughter's bbq, the front speakers were my backup JVC's (no way in Hades I was bringing out my RTIa7's out in the backyard). So the the 1 M70 was still in the man cave and I was able to discern the difference...It was very crisp, not as bright as the 7's but nontheless great sound emanating from it. I am feenin' for that second cherry m70 (even though I cant afford it rite now).

In reading back through this thread I think there may be some confusion about the 70's currently at $179. The BLACK 70's are back at $179... Coupon SPEAKER615. The code expires on the 7th.

    Regards,

Quick followup question .... I have the monitor 60s and I like them, but they need just a bit more punch imho. Just a lil more ...

    SO

Is an upgrade to the 70's enough, or do I need to go RTi series?

I have the 70's and the 60's and the 70's are definitely better. By what some others have said, they will sound better yet when given a bit more power, so I think the 70's would be great for you if you're just looking for a little bit more.

You'd have to go at least Rti-A7s to get more punch....but Rti-A9s would be your best bet...and they're in a different price range. Look at the specs--Rti-A5s and M70s have the same low end? And the M70 are higher wattage!

    Hi Rodeo..

Congrats. I run M70, myself, for HT...I think they're, perhaps, one of the most underrated Polk speakers. They're quite good for the price....especially for that price...which is what I got them for almost a year ago. They'll sound good with that Onkyo. I also use an Onkyo to power mine and the 800 series has just about enough power to push them some. I've also run them with an Adcom GFA-555 and, well. It's a significant 'upgrade'.

If I were going RTI-A I'd get A9s. But I've said that before. I like RTIs fine but I 'really' like the 9s the best and wouldn't upgrade my 70s for anything less than those.
    Enjoy...
