Had to buy the 70's

Well, for $179/ea for the Monitor 70's, I had to make the purchase. I have my 60's now, but might use them as surrounds for a while or might sell them locally at some point. I'm going to pick up the used Onkyo 806 tomorrow as well, so I just need to find a good deal on a sub at some point in the next few months. Then down the road I can add some external power for the 70's. It seems like I'm moving pretty fast with this setup, but I hope to use it for a good while. What do you guys think I should do about the 60's? I probably could get about what I paid for them if I sold them. They haven't been used much at all and have no marks on them at all.

Keep the 60s for a kickazz bedroom rig, they are way better than bookshelves and narrow enough to find a home for them. I specifically bought 60s for the bedroom and 70s for the living room.

I was thinking that as well. It's amazing how much TV I watch in the bedroom on my little 27" TV when I have a 50" plasma in my living room. I will probably just continue to use my onkyo 506 to run those because it does a good enough job for now. I plan on getting a nicer bedroom TV in the future, but not right now though. I think the 60's would be great for that setup for sure. I'll still use the 60's as surrounds for a little while until I get some 40's or something.

I actually got them from Newegg.com with the code EMCLSNN38, plus free shipping! The cherry ones are $200 with the code HAS523 I guess, but I didn't buy those, so I'm not going to say that will work for sure. I'm not sure how long Newegg has this deal going on, but it seems like a great price to me. I don't know who originally posted these codes, but I give credit to them:) Hopefully this helps you.

Thank you!! I was hoping to make the 2 hour drive to get the 806 this weekend as well, but plans fell through on both sides of the arrangement, so I really hope he holds on to it for just one more week. My birthday is saturday, so that would be awesome if I get the 70's later this week and get the 806 on saturday. I think I might have to have a little get-together then:D

    Hi Rodeo..

Congrats. I run M70, myself, for HT...I think they're, perhaps, one of the most underrated Polk speakers. They're quite good for the price....especially for that price...which is what I got them for almost a year ago. They'll sound good with that Onkyo. I also use an Onkyo to power mine and the 800 series has just about enough power to push them some. I've also run them with an Adcom GFA-555 and, well. It's a significant 'upgrade'.

If I were going RTI-A I'd get A9s. But I've said that before. I like RTIs fine but I 'really' like the 9s the best and wouldn't upgrade my 70s for anything less than those.
    Enjoy...

Cnh, I think you are definitely one of the biggest reasons why I wanted the 70's. You're quite the salesperson on the greatness of those speakers and I just had to do it. I wouldn't have done it for the $229 reg. price because I have my 60's, but for $50 less/ea. I said that's too good to pass up. I'm going to get a nice sub next and then some kind of external amplification after that. I'll have enough power for a little while, but it will be nice to have a little more power down the road.

Enjoy them while you can. We're all pretty crazy here you know...the upgrade bug and all.

I have a set of SDA-2Bs to pick up yet. But I'm only going to use those for a 2-channel rig.

I'd go and listen to a bunch of subs. See what you like...fix a price-range; that's the hardest because we're not all Diamond Jims here! The weakest link in my system is still the sub...and that's because I'm still in the $500 and less category. That's not to say I don't 'like' my sub. But just that I know I could do even better.

Save as much as you can and get the best sub you can. A nice mid-level sub in the 600 dollar plus range are the Velodyne models. They do well with music and HT. But you can spend well over 1000 on subwoofing!

I'm going to have to spend a decent bit on the sub because of room size. Room has 12 foot ceilings and is 14x16 and goes into another open area thats about 8x12 or so. That's a lot of square footage for my little 8" Polk htib sub to handle...thank goodness I'm not moved in there yet because I don't know if I would even know if bass exists or not:eek:

Congrats on the 70's for that price. I also run Monitor 70's in my humble HT setup and I have been nothing but amazed by their performance so far. I can't wait to get an external amp to really bring them to life. I also run an Onkyo 806 and it has impressed me in every way as well. I have always had a soft spot for Onkyo AVR's and the 806 def. did not dissapoint. You are well on your way to having a very nice HT setup, maybe I say that because it is very similar to mine, lol.

I guess it's the ultimate compliment for someone to imitate the setup right? I'm starting to get amped about the 70's already and I haven't heard or seen (in person) them yet.

Yeah I guess it would be, lol. Like I said IMO you are well on your way to having one heck of a HT without having to spend your kids college fund (if applicable, lol) and very upgradeable and versatile as well. The 70's will sound amazing "out of the box" with the 806 and will only sound better over time once you break them in and add an external amp or two down the road. That is where I am at now, looking to add an amp to really bring my 70's to life. The 70's are a very sexy speaker too, lol. They look very good in my living room, just wish they had a better grille cover, it is a bit flimsy and very tempting for my cats to sharpen their claws with. Again, congrats and you won't be dissapointed. I know I'm not.

they are telling me its a legit code but i dont meet the usage requirements>>i hope they will be available when im ready..i only need one as CNH should know...I have been running my laptop on internet radio (vmix.fm) non stop to enjoy the almost surround sound experience....Ive been falling asleep in the basement for 2 weeks straight enjoying the music and the playoffs...I still gotta pay for the one 70 i paid $150 for....I must admit polkies...I getting to that point where i want to push the speakers now with a preamp but i dont know the science behind that quite yet.

Party was great..though I was embarrased that the zone two was not working with my backup JVC's for my daughter' party. Let me tell u what happened...hooked zone 2 to jvc's..plugged ipod in..no sound.then I read that zone 2 doesn't play digital sources (huh?) I can assume the ipod is a digital source? So what I do next? Run the cables from the onkyo front speakers that were originally slotted for my rti7 slot to the jvc's outside and then what happened? The radio kept overloading and cutting off. So I played music with our little radio instead. Anywho..still waiting for the 70's to come down in the meanwhile I'll enjoy 3.0 polk partial surround and 2.1 sony surround sound. Did I miss the boat on those m70 cherry's? Will they ever come down again?

    Hey MVS....

Welcome to CPolk. You will enjoy your new speakers. I've had mine for a while now and they're very nice at their price point.

What are you using to power them? Feel free to tell us what you think or ask about anything if you have any questions.

Stick around...there's a lot to learn on this site if you remain cool.
