Bad Taste actually came out before Dead/Alive - which was also known as Braindead overseas. Maybe that's what you're thinking?
Great catch on the Sumatran rat monkey in King Kong. Good stuff.

    Yup.

It will probably be worth a look when it comes out on DVD (which will definitely be before Christmas).

Looks interesting. LOVED lotr, read the whole thing as a kid, and could not believe someone (Peter Jackson) could actually translate that into film and actually tell the whole story. It was, in my opinion, just as much a masterpiece in film as the originals were in books. So then comes King Kong. It Sucked King Kong sized dick (also my opinion). Waaaaay tooooo looonnnggg. Boring. I realize that he's the director and not the writer so I don't blame him for the movie sucking, but he IS part of the problem. He should really just stick to hobbits lol.

Took the wife to see it during lunch-time. Afterwards, she said "Interesting". I won't spill it, but suffice to say, it's a solid 6 out of 10. Just for comparison of my rating system, Startrek is a solid 8.5/10. It is a drama with sci-fi twist to it. And those South African accents took away some of the fun. 'nuff said.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

One of the best science fiction movies I've seen in a long time, original story plus seamless effects. 10/10 for me.

Will be some great HT demo material for sure.

Could not agree more. I would give it a 9.5 out of ten. It was not what I was expecting to say the least. It started on the slow side, but the build up was intense leading into the final 30 minutes of the movie.

What was odd is that for some reason it compared to the movie Hot Fuzz to me. Not the story line, but more of the gore, and how it played out in a funny manner. There was some real bloody scenes that had me laughing. And I felt my fellow movie goers were laughing too.

Really looking forward to seeing this again.

Was this more of a satirical film? I thought it was supposed to be all serious and dramatic.

Glad to hear its pretty good tho. Im planning on seeing it.

Not sure Mac....that is what was so odd. I think they made it to be serious. Who knows though. Maybe someone else can chime in. Maybe it was just me and my kids laughing...LOL.

I would say it is definitely satirical (IMHO). To me, the first 1 hour of the movie was the giveaway as to the intended messages, full of compare and contrast and the irony.

Mac, go see it and let us know your thoughts... :)

Saw it today and loved it! Ignoring the story (which I enjoyed), it had some of the most aggressive surround usage I've heard in some time. It ought to make for one hell of a home experience when it comes out on Blu-ray, and will definitely be a must buy for me.

My only real beef, I suppose, is that I think the goofiness at the beginning (whether intentional or not) really doesn't prepare you for that final 40 minutes of all hell breaking loose. I think Blomkamp did some outstanding work though, and this is a hell of a first feature film for him. Here's hoping it leads to many more.

Very good flick. I loved the ending. Wonderful storyline. Excellent f/x in blending the aliens into the real world. Can't wait for the blu-ray because I had problems understanding the main actor at times.

I'm hoping they followup on the story with a District 10. Lots of questions left unanswered.

I watched the BD earlier today (followed by Blazing Saddles, which was an interesting contrast). District 9 has absolutely fantastic video. And the surround was very nice, with some good LFE in the second half of the movie. Definitely a solid disc to show off your system. Plus, I think I spent as much time watching the extras as I did the movie, which says a lot. I can't wait to see what Neill Blomkamp does next (and I'm still pissed that he didn't get to do the Halo movie, but I'm glad District 9 did well enough for him to shove it in their faces).

Good Movie! The whole movie has good coherency with the events. Picture Quality is very good and sound quality and effects are awesome. But I wish there could be more LFE in there. The plot is simple and it's very predictable. 3 years child can probably guess what will happen next. Mostly Very Funny but not something I'd buy. But a definite rental and I think it's one of the good ones coming out in a while.
