Most cd's i can deal with but...the new AC/DC black ice stuff.....wow

This must be EQ'ed for MP3 crap..or something. This is the worst AC/DC stuff i have ever heard. If I play this strait thru the cd player.....it is the most over done stuff...so brittle i can't even listen. If i run it thru, my pre amp...i can cut down stuff...but still...nasty

Is everything being recorded for MP3 junk now....or is this just nasty?

sounds mixers no longer know how to mix music... basically they just lay it down on a server and call it good. that's why vinyl for the most part sounds better. esp vinyl that is old or very well mixed on analog gear.

even the U2 latest release on 180g vinyl is horrible sounding.. horrible crushed highs and mids.. muddy bass.. just a shame.

I just picked up a bunch of vinyl from the 50's and 60's and it sounds awesome.

The suck button is being pressed in the mastering stage, not so much the mixing stage. Those guys are being forced to compress the hell out of everything, to make it louder.

Vinyl is not immune, either. The damage is done well before the pressing stage.

I have lots of good links to articles, just not on this computer. I'll post up a few later.

Here's a good one to start.

Here's a long one, but really explains the problem, and who's responsible. A very good read, considering the magazine it comes from.:D

I have to agree, the new Metallica sounds terrible (Not the music but its compressed so much its distorted), along with a bunch of newer music,

Anything by Celine, Whitney, Some Mariah. and definately anything by the Judds, any CD they make is terrible.

Kidding aside I really like the Cars, but the quality of the mixing on their cd's is not very good.

    Buyer beware....

Just because you have a vinyl LP does not absolutely mean it is better than CD.

    It depends.

I have been into to vinyl since the early 70s and have been buying CDs just recently.

Both can suck or excel ...depends...either can sound like a sonic ****....absolutes are like religion...wanna fight? ;)

CDs, vinyl, MP3, etc... -- they should all be burned in a bonfire. They're evil. Our gear would sound so much better if we didn't have to extract music from that heaping pile of crap.

But humans are inherently lazy...we would much prefer convenience to fidelity....I'd admit to prefer listening to Sabbath live, but can't get my lazy fat butt to drive to see them....what to do....????

Sabbath Live? Oh my goodness. That'll sound worse than any CD or vinyl you'll ever spin.

Mott The Hoople - "All The Young Dudes". The music is fine, but this is one of the worst mastered and recorded CDs I've ever owned. Almost unlistenable. It sounds like it was recorded with a single track cassette deck and a toy microphone. Fortunately, there was a remaster that corrected most of the problems. I find a lot of remasters to be a waste of time and not that much of an improvement (if at all) over the original. This one was an absolute necessity.

I've got AC/DC's Black Ice on vinyl and cd and I have to say the vinyl version sounds much better. Same with Metallica's Death Magnetic....vinyl wins again.

Very true that SOME CDs suck !! I just played the Beatle's Abbey Road CD that sounded like ****. I've heard this recording before on a CD that sounded great, and I KNOW that the original studio mastering was state of the art and way ahead of it's time! So what happens along the way to screw it up ??:mad:
