Getting ready to purchase a set of R50's and was reading from a few people that had tweeters blowing, does anyone know if this is a problem with this speaker or do some people just turn them up too loud? For the most part everyone reports that these are excellent speakers.

"Excellent" is a subjective term. The R50's are Polk's entry level speakers. I have a pair but have moved on to RTi's for HT and LSi9's for 2 channel.

To my understanding the tweeters blow when you power the speakers with an underpowered amp. See here:

I powered them with an older Technics 100W integrated amplifier and they worked just fine. I had them cranked on more than one occasion in a good size room with vaulted ceilings and they survived. They will probably blow also if you really push them beyond their abilities. I never reached this level since it would either hurt my ears in doing so or lead me to a noise citation.

Go ahead and get them. It was a step up for me two until they put those RTi10's on sale....don't worry about the tweeters, just don't blast them for hours and hours....Hey Max when did you get those LSi's?
