Waiting on SL-2500's, and a temperature question.

So, two came up on ebay (from some gutted 5jr's).

I went ahead and bought them :)

I know the RD0's are better... but at less than half the price, I thought I'd grab them.

Since I'm not familiar with how the Monitor 12's perform stock, it'll help me get a grasp of how they should sound. *And* when I do upgrade to the RD0's, I can put the 2500's in my 5jr's :)

The 12's are in the garage. Should I be worried about the ferro-fluid and freezing temps? Should I keep the tweets inside until it warms up?

I'm pretty geeked. 'Best 73 bucks I ever spent on audio :D

Now, just gotta dig up an old McIntosh amp or somesuch at the local Goodwill...

I don't think it is a good idea to have any components exposed to prolonged whether elements.

Yeah, it's not like having the 12's in the garage is ideal, but there honestly isn't room in the house :o

I *really* want to bring them inside... especially when the tweets get here :p

Maybe I can squeeze them somewhere.

    [looks around and frowns]

Kids first, big wooden boxes second :(

Now I need to find a good, old, affordable amp/receiver...

Speakers, in general, do not like freezing temps. Neither does ferro-fluid.

Edit: Come to think of it, I don't believe the SL2500's use ferro-fluid.

The SL2500 uses the wicked sauce.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Tweets were packed... ummm... tight :(

No protection for the domes. One was wrapped so tight in bubble wrap it creased 2/3 of the way around the middle, and the other 1/3 blew out- POP!!

The other one was a little dimpled, but it popped out as soon as I unwrapped it

So, one is good, the other bad. I got almost the compensation I wanted from the seller... close enough that I'm not throwing a fit.

So, now I'm off to bid on one that matches...

I should have waited 2 weeks and bought the new ones from Polk :o

Total cost for the Monitor 12 pair and replacement tweets is now up to (after tonight's bid) $84.

    I'm still pleased, but irritated.

Ah well, live and learn :p

    [whew] What drama :p

Next week I'll have the 12's up and running. Hooray :D

I guess I'll have to roll my old 4 channel Dolby receiver in from storage, hook up the 5jr's (SL-2000, PR model), and do some old-tech movie watching

Sarah is going to hate me. At least she'll stay with me for the kids' sake.
