5.1 with VM20's and looking to go to 7.1

My current speaker setup is 5.1 with all VM20's and a psw505 sub. I'm thinking of adding 2 floor standing speakers to make a 7.1 system. A local retal store has some good deals on rti12's. I've read it's best to stick with the same line for the F,R and Center but how bad of an idea is it to mix the VM20's with the RTI's (I guessing the "right" thing to do would be to go with the VM 30's but I wanted to try larger speakers)

btw..i have the 3808ci and xpa-3

The RTI series is a better speaker IMO. Have you thought about selling the V20's and getting a complete RTI setup?

    That's what I'd suggest to.

If you don't want to go that route though, the VM30's would be the way to go. You're always better off going with a voice matched soundfield.

selling them..I just bought them :) I'm actually happy with them - IMO they look and sound great. I'm new to HT and just wanted to experiment with large speakers and the xpa-3 (not really needed with the 3808 and vm20's, but doesn't hurt). Thx for the feedback - If I go 7.1, I'll pickup the vm30's.

Just went to listen to the Rti A9 and the VM30's. I think they both put out good sound, but given the size, styling and the fact that I already have the VM20's - I ordered the VM30's.
