You don't know how to molest an amp? Comeon now I thought everyone knew how to do that.

    Nope
Maybe you should post some pictures :D

Nope; Then the pres. and the chief would be here to take away my cheap amps as well as my sda's. I posted a pic of some building supports I have a while back and I lived to regret that decision.:D

If you're driving the larger SDA's with a $300 amp, you don't deserve the speakers.

Well, it's kind of like grocery shopping with the "Buy Whatcha Can When You Can" way of thinking.
Went to Shop N' Save today to pick up some diced tomatoes, and they had Red Gold cans of diced tomatoes on clearance (14.5 ounce size). 33 cents a can, so I picked up 2 dozen cans.
Now, a reasonable person could say, "What the heck are you going to do with 2 dozen cans of diced tomatoes ?" (or, as my sons asked, "WTF ?").

Well ..... they'll eventually get used, and they'll eventually get used properly. ("Hey, Dad, this homemade apple pie you made tastes like ...... GD DICED TOMATOES !!!" "Yes .... yes it does".

The same applies to SDA's that someone might luckily come across dirt cheap.
If that lucky person can afford them, than I'd say "Get 'em". Doesn't matter if the only amplification he/she has is an Insignia HTIB rig rated at 1000 watts per channel (translates into 7.5 watts per channel, real world ).
    "Get 'em".
The amplification will eventually come, and you'll have to put up with less than stellar results in the mean time, but ....... "Get 'em".

Well, Motostereo, if truth be told, the reason F1 won was because .... it was because of his good looks ! Yes, it was a close contest and he used his Hollywood look to sway the female vote. **** The swooning F1 groupies were something to behold.

..... or something to be held.
    One of the two.
In any event, it was something.

The only question I have is ..... what is this thread about ? I forgot. :o

As for F1nut. I heard someone touched his hair at PF08 and instantly turned to a pillar of salt. They used the remains to rim the glasses of many margaritas:D
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

    hi megasat16,

thanks for the reply & info...I jotted down the info in case I go that route & can find someone to assist. I'll likely look around more for a pair in excellent condition that maybe don't work..too pricey to fix so might get a good deal on the 1.2's or the older versions of it..thanks!

who is tina you ask??? Well, I'm a member here of course who was seeking advice regarding a polk speaker...thank you...LOL Is someone posing as me?? I'm just now reading past posts..tring to get a fast education on gear since in the market for an av receiver..& LCD tv. And, I'm always looking for a vintage or newer speaker that is as beastly in size as the polk 1.2 model...several drivers & very tall...working or non working as long as they're in very good cosmetic condition. I want these speakers as a show piece in my music/video room...

I guess I fail to see why you would want some gigantic monstrosities to display in your A/V room, when they don't even work. I'd let them stay on the market for someone that will buy them and fix them up, and use them. The SRS's weigh like 160 pounds each IIRC...that's a pretty damn heavy decoration...especially when it doesn't even perform it's intended function.

Over 180 pounds each, at least for my 1.2TLs. I'd never want something this size just for display purposes. For anyone who has never seen a pair in person: They do NOT have a delicate room presence like a Magnepan, regardless of what the photos look like. Each one's the size of a coffin and takes two strong men, suitably drunk, to move.

Exactly...if you want some nice looking speakers, purely for decorative purposes...SRS's are not the way to go.

If that's really the route you want to go though, best of luck finding a pair of "dead" SRS's. I'm not to up on the going prices of SDA's, but I'd imagine even a dead pair of SRS's fetch a pretty good price.

An original SRS is around the $1000-1500 range on the high end, usually. I'd imagine you could get a beat pair with some bad drivers for several hundred. But you rarely see them in that condition because almost no one will treat such an expensive speaker so poorly.

There are bargains to be found. Heck, a set of good 1.2s sold on Craigslist out west for $100 after the seller couldn't find a buyer with more money.

I need to find one of those deals...lol...I caught the SDA bug recently...I'd never heard any of them before up until about a week ago. I went to this guys house with one of my friends...walk in the door, and I see a pair of SDA 1c's sitting there. He was powering them with a 250 watt x 2 channel Rotel amp, I'm not sure of the model number though. I gave 'em a listen...and was blown away. The imaging on these things is incredible...I've gotta get me a pair now.

What does a decent pair of SDA 1's go for? Would I be best off looking for the 1C's, or are the A's and B's just as good? I know I like the all wood grain finish on the A's and B's more for one thing.

Oh cmon now I carried mine up two flights of stairs one under each arm

Actually I did carry them up the stairs by myself but only one at a time and I would have accepted help if anyone had offered lol :p

They may start out at 180-190lbs whatever they are but trust me by the time you reach the landing on the 2nd floor they have grown to 500lbs each :D

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Sheesh, I rented a refrigerator dolly to take my SRS 2's DOWN a flight of stairs. They do say everything's tougher in Alaska.

1C's are the way to go. 1B's will get you close. 1A's are really not worth it IMO. Get ready to wait being here in the Midwest like me. SDA's are scarce here, but they do come up FS once in awhile.

I sort of fell into my 1C's at our local Polk Fest in Bloomington, IL and another local Polkie had truck at the fest so I bought them and we brought them back to Rockford. I used to sell SDA's and I couldn't afford them then (just a poor college student) now I have a pair of 1C's with full x-over upgrade (Sonicaps) and RD0's. They won't be going anywhere!

I'd say look for a pair of 1C's in the $400-600 range as a good deal. $700 if mint is still a pretty good deal. With the economy the way it is; it's a buyers market. Shipping is risky but if done properly and one is willing to pay extra to have it done correctly it can be done.
