Up for sale is an original pair of RTA12's, in real wood, with white grill cloths & original stands. The speakers are in great condition as they've never been moved since purchase.

I will be able to post pictures on around Dec. 30th as the speakers are in my folk's house, which is in LA, and I'm in Spokane.

This is a great opportunity for someone to get a terrific classic speaker on the cheap. I'm looking for about $150 for these, so if you're interested, let me know.

I'll also be posting my dad's NAD integrated amp - a classic - & his Sony cd player, so keep your eyes peeled if you're interested in these as well. Shoot me a pm if you're interested or if you've got any questions.

Thanks,

Brent

dont let the price fool you, there is nothing that comes to mind for 150 that touches these speakers in sound quality. the RTA12 were what made me realize what very good speakers can sound like.

I'm interested. Not in LA. The shipping would be the question.

Yeah, these are expensive to ship, not just because they're big & heavy, but because you really want them stable as they travel.

I spent $300 having a pair of them shipped to my house, but they made it, safe & sound. Anyway, I wouldn't advise doing it, but thanks anyway.

    Price drop!

How about $100? If no one grabs these, they'll go up for sale in our estate sale, some time in January.

wow. that's an incredible deal. once you hear a pair of RTA12's, you'll be hooked. Very pleasing sounding speaker. It's one of the few speakers that does it all, highs, mids and yeah bass just right.

all for $100 bones! There must be someone in So Cal that would like them. Although I have never seen them on stands before.. that's new for me.

Thanks for the props, DB. The original RTA12's came with stands as they didn't have the few inches of wood at the bottom to decouple them from the floor as later versions did.

I'm not familiar with all the varied drivers used in the older Polks but would any of these work in SDA1As, Mon10As, SDA2Bs or SRSIIs w/pin-blade??? If so I'd pay extra for strip&ship just to have some spares.:)Geoff

I think they'd work - best to contact Polk to make sure.

I'm not interested in parting them out anyway. But good luck.

with a beautiful pair of original RTA 12's like bottomfeeder is selling. I agree with him, not a good idea to part them out.

you got any pics Brent to woo any potential buys? ;)

Pics are pending. My brother is now in LA, will be taking pictures & sending them to me. I hope to have some up tonight or by tomorrow at the latest. I'll also be posting pics of my dad's classic NAD integrated amp and Sony (I think) cdp, both of which work flawlessly.

Nah, thanks but no thanks, Beardog03. I'm not going to ship these & I think you wouldn't want to part w/the coin to do it, either. I bought a pair of RTA12C's a few years ago & it cost me a whopping $300 to box & ship them! They made it, but the cost was high.

I will also be attending to many, many other details of putting a house up for sale, so the sale of these speakers is pick up only. Sorry, should have indicated that at the start.

    Thanks anyway.

On the contrary, they are real wood indeed. I believe they call it "wood veneer." It's certainly not vinyl.

okay i would be willing to pick these up. I am unsure a bit though, as i do not know if they are for what i need. I am looking for home theater speakers. I could easily drive to LA to grab these.
Please let me know if they will serve my purpose and also.... is that the crossover and tweeter on the outside?

now that's better. someone willing to pick up a nice rare pair of RTA12's. ;)

the crosssovers and tweeeters were designed outside of the box.... easy to update that way.. and it sounds great.

Yes, I have what are typically called the "hats," & they are in perfect condition. Sorry that there are no pictures of them.

& Yes, they would work for home theater & some of the guys on here use them for that application.

You can pm me for more details, directions etc.

any input on these for home theater would be great!!!! please
also, what kinda power do i need to drive these?
For home theater would i still want a sub? i see they have 2 12" woofers.
this would be 100 bucks unexpected so i want to make sure that these are something i will be happy with.

how hard would it be to maybe dye the grills black and paint the surrounds black?

im also very worried i wont be able to afford the proper power for these... just reading online i see a lot of people complaining that they just cant get enough power into these guys.

any advice would be great. i would love to fix these up and make them look new again. i've seen lots of picks of these now and they look really cool when they were new.

Hopefully, other guys will check in on this, but here's what I know / think...

These are very efficient speakers and DO NOT require lots of power. My dad has driven these w/an NAD 3155 which has 55 wpc & I drove my pair w/50 wpc & in both cases, there was no problem whatsoever.

Whether or not you need a sub for home theater is subjective - some like more bass than others. I'd suggest trying them out & if you think you need more, then get a sub.

As to dying the grills, my dad had them recovered. Don't recall how much it cost, but it wasn't expensive at all.

I don't know anything about painting surrounds black - I think you're referring to the 12" passive radiators, which are grey. Don't know anything about that.

As for fixing them up, they're already in terrific shape & would only require whatever changes you'd like.

If you've read up on these, you know that they're terrific, very popular speakers. Do a search here on them & you'll find loads of information. I know that $100 dollars is $100 dollars, but anyone on this forum would tell you that for this price, you can't go wrong with these.
