when does this take effect jesse? boy, that'd piss me off to be a seller. but i suppose as with everything, inflation, inflation, inflation.:(

what is it to sell currently? $6? so if this happens, then the seller who just sold to me for $6 to run his add will be charged $4 plus 1.5%? on $750 he'd have to pay $15.25?

Why a percentage and not just raise the flat fee? I understand that charging a percentage makes sense if there is some associated cost/risk from their side (insurance will cost more for more expensive items because the coverage is higher, or even paypal, they provide some protection and their cost will be higher for higher priced items).

But AUDIOGON???? They don't provide absolutely nothing more than the service, and if an item sells for $100 or $100,000 it will have no impact for them.

    Crooks if you ask me.

Here's my post on that thread:

"In my opinion, Audiogon is taking advantage of their position as a relatively safe place to do business.

I understand that costs go up, and I would completely support an increase in fees (from $6 to $8, or even $10).
But, charging a percentage only shows they are greedy, and think users are stupid.

Percentage is something that makes sense if there's a related benefit to the seller, insurance, buyer/seller protection plan, etc.

But, Audiogon does not provide any of these. For them, the cost to post an item that sells for $10 is the same as the cost for an item that sells for $100,000.

Pretty unethical if you ask me.

If I am wrong, I would love to see an Audiogon rep post here correcting me.

    Thanks."

Well that was a good run. Next thing you know we'll see a small eBay logo right above the Audiogon trademark.

Looks like both eBay and Agon are pushing themselves into more and more deals being transacted offsite. I've seen more auctions pulled recently due to supposed local sales than ever.

If the 'gon makes it more difficult to offload used gear, you may see more people holding onto their existing gear.

By the way, how do the new audiogon rates compare to ebay?

Or you might see more people finding reliable audio communities to sell their gear such as CP and other forums.

    Audiogone.net /.biz/.org
    are available domain names.

Go with the old fee structure, set up a Google adword campaign pushing the rate difference, and you're in business.

uh, how are they a) going to know when an item sells in the classifieds and b)actually going to collect the money? I imagine a conversation like this

Audiogon "hey Lou, did that item sell?
Lou "nope, not even a nibble"

eh, either way, if I'm gonna be raped by fees, it will be done by Ebay, at least they provide services and have ....like..... a 1000 times more potential buyers. 1.5% of sale for nothing but a listing. suck it!

ebay only for me. oh, and during these economic times? good timing stupid! head of Audiogon should quit and run an investment bank and tank it, he'll make more money for the same results...lol

The greed started over there when they began charging for WTB's.

But this pushes it over the edge for me. It's now Craigslist or I'm keeping it.

Just sell it for "$1 or best offer." When the e-mail rolls in say someone offered something close to what you want and go from there.

So to get around the fee structure, do you just post your item, get in contact with someone, sell the item, never indicate that it was sold and never submit any feedback?

After reading most of the thread on A-gon, that's how it appears.

I have a couple of things I wanted to list, now I have another excuse for putting it off.

What sucks to me is waiting for a money order or bank check to arrive, and then going to the bank and standing at the teller for 10 minutes while they try to verify if the check is legit. I hate going to the bank -- I avoid it whenever possible. Paypal may suck but to me it's far better than the alternatives.
