Greetings!

For sale is a pair of beautiful oak AL-III's with the Infinity sub mods up for sale here for $750. I am planning to bring them to Polkfest next month, but I will arrange for a pickup if you are willing to travel to the Pittsburgh area. These same AL-III's are famous here and the previous owners include Normality (RIP), Scompracer, ND-13, Ricardo and me (Polk Hall of Fame or shame members:D;)). Rich did the mods. I love these speakers but I don't have the room configuration to set them up properly. Someone needs to own these so they can be played and loved.

Post your interest here, then PM me. I prefer PayPal or cash, but I will accept a check or MO from valiant Polk members. But, I get to decide!

How about some ****???:D Photo's courtesy of Ricardo and Scompracer.

How do these compare to the amazings?

Damn, that is tempting but the cash situation bites this month. Should they survive a few more weeks unsold, I might very well be interested.

Prettier, easier to drive, very little footprint......

I never heard the big amazings, but these 60" ribbons, that play all the way from 150 Hz up, are just incredibly accurate and open. The low end is also pretty good with the Infinity mod.

You should contribute on their move east :)

I almost bought these from Noel when he was selling. Beautiful speakers. If nobody here buys these, if anyone from the Chicago area is going to polkfest this year, I'd probably buy.

Gentlemen, I think there are people coming to Polkfest from both the Atlanta and Chicago areas. I don't know who is driving vs flying, but that's why I've posted this info here. Maybe we can get a Pony Express going. These would be an easy sell on Craigslist, but I want to keep them in the family.

Why are you bringing these to Polkfest? or did you mean you CAN bring them to Polkfest?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I was going to set them up in my hotel room. Some people carry IPods, or boom boxes, I bring large dipole speakers and 250 wpc amps.;)

Actually, thanks for the grammer correction Mark. I meant to say that I can bring these with me if someone wants to buy them. Polkfest would be an opportunity to make an exchange in the hotel. Save on shipping, etc.

That is a Von Schweikert VR-1. Awesome speaker for the size. I sold these AL-III's to Carl because between the 3.1TL's and these VR-1's I had all I wanted. Of course that has changed....a few times already.

As to how they compare with the Amazings....

Well the ribbon is the same....so the sound is very similar. That said, there are pros and cons to both. The AL-III's are easier to set up and are more friendly to less than ideal rooms. The seem to be less fussy, overall.

Bass extension is the major difference. The AL-III's aren't bass-shy but 8, 12" free air drivers blowing your hair back is manly. The Amazings rule in that respect. If you've got the room and the amp, go with the Amazings. If you have a smaller space...go AL-III

AL-IIIs have the 48" ribbon. I find they image much better than the ALS Originals or Platinums, but they don't have the open & substantial bass response. :)

I put the Infinity KAPPA Perfect 10.1 woofer in mine; LOVE the change...

Rabbit's modded AL-III's do sound truly wonderful. Much cleaner bass than my stock AL-III's. Bob Carver himself was impressed with this mod.

Thanks for the clarification on the ribbon Mr. Rabbit! Mine have the Infinity 1040w. I agree with your comment about the "open", and the Amazings do have more bass. However these AL-III's are not bass shy at all.

I'll regret selling these, but I don't have the room and it's time for someone else to experience these beautiful and great sounding speakers.

I demoed them for a short time at my home (a pair in black) thanks to Norm & Rich. Very nice indeed. I didn't have them set up correctly at all and may have missed out on something very special.

In my experience shy is not a word I would use to describe their bass response.
