Hi,
Just found out about this site from AVS. What a great resource! I've been a proud owner of a set of Monitor 10B's since 1984 when I was a senior in high school. My first set were the 5B's which I bought around '83 and then sold them to upgrade to the 10B's I'm just getting into HT and will be using these for my mains at least for now. From one of the Polk FAQ's I see that they recommend using the CSi5 as a center for older models. Anyone try this? Too bad i didn't keep my 5B's for the center.

Also, I found the great right up from heiney9 (thanks!!) on updating the x-over and tweeter upgrade. I've got the SL1000's so will definitely do the tweeter upgrade to the RD0194-1's and if I'm up to it perhaps the x-over.

I am a believer in upgrades/updates because I have done a few!!! The RDO's are great and a crossover upgrade is a no-brainer and easy to do. Use the search forum and you will learn alot. If you can always post pictures we love them and help everyone i making good suggestions. Never forget that you need good sources, amp pre-amp cd player to produce excellent sound through great speakers.

I'm currently using an NAD pre-amp and an older Soundcraftsmen amp to power them and it has not problem driving them. I'm going o get a Pioneer 1018 AVR and since it has pre-outs I can still use the Soundcraftsmen to power them. Also have a PS3, SLinn Basik turntable and older HK CD player.

I'll get a pic up soon - just have to recharge the batteries for my camera.

A couple of quick pics. I've still got some work to do on this space including centering the plasma between the mains as well as running the cables to it through the wall. The cabinets on the 10B's are vinyl and they are in mint condition. Only scratches are on the bottom of the cabinets other than that there is not a single blemish on them. I do wish I had the real wood cabinets through.

Hi kgingras, while it may seem to be a major undertaking, stripping the vinyl and replacing it with real wood veneer is very "doable",even for people with little or no woodworking experience. I'm not sure if it's still being produced, but, there was a line of veneers that came with a coating of hot-melt adhesive that you could apply using only a household iron. Staining can be a challenge to some, but a lot of species look incredibly sweet with only a couple of coats of clear finish. I think that quite a few folks here have done their own veneering/finishing with good results! Google Carpathian elm burl and imagine some of that on your speakers! As Rob Schneider says;"You can do eet!" Good luck, gdb:)

Welcome to Club Polk! I'm glad that you are still using the 10B's, they are a great speaker.

Is that a small access door behind your audio cabinet? If so, have you ever considered building an "in wall" cabinet? Having open access behind the units would clean up the cable management problems and give a nice, neat presentation to the room. Just a thought. Welcome and good luck!:)

Yes that is an access door to a crawl space and I have pondered doing a built in. However this is a new build and eventually I'd like to move all this to the basement once it is finished so for now I'm just going to route the power and HDMI cables through the walls to clean things up.

I think I got those pretty cheap at some going out of business sale. Not sure what kind they are but they are sturdy so work well with the 10's. I do like the original Polk stands though.
