2michaud wants some LSi's...

Hi all! It's been awhile since I have posted, and with things getting pretty busy in the next few weeks as I go off to school, I wanted to get this post out here.

Here's what I have been hearing and thinking. I have heard that RTi's are best for HT, and LSi's are best for music. And for music listeners who have RTi's, LSi's would be a great step up.

Now, I need to clarify that I listen to euro-dance/trance music, or "techno" as most people call it. For anyone who hasn't heard it, it's very dynamic, shooting from low 30-50Hz beats and shrill, I dunno, 150KHz, maybe, highs. So, my thoughts are that flagship speakers like the LSi's that reproduce sounds with pristine clarity would be great for listening to things like Pavoratti (sp?), Mozart, John Lenon, etc...lol. And maybe, (I'm just hypothesizing here...) dynamic music is better on speakers specialized for boomy HT?

Would love your guys' thoughts on this...

So if I did decide to go with some LSi's I have a lot of options. And problems. First, my reciever won't power them properly I hear. Second, I would need to sell all my stuff, reciever, speakers...and there isn't a market for this stuff here in Calgary, Canada...at least I don't think there is. Third, to buy LSi's in Canada is stupid because they are still being sold at ridiculous inflated Canadian prices, even though the dollar is even. For example, a pair of LSi15's at a local store here runs you up $2200. Fourth, if I was smart enough not to buy locally, few people will ship speakers, especially across the border into "eskimo-country."

So, let's speak hypothetically some more. If I WERE able to make the move to LSi's, which ones would I get? At the moment, I am in what has been called a "bunker" at 12' x 12'. But in 2 years I'm moving out, so I want to buy large now so I am good for then. So I think I might want to stick with towers for the fronts. But how much would I really miss if I went with LSi9's instead of LSi25's say. It's the exact same thing except for the woofer and the cabinet right? So would the overall bass be the same in the LSi9's on stands, as in my RTi8's?

And on to power and processing, I have heard good things about seperates, but I doubt my budget will come even close to that, so what is a good reciever that will power these?

I know this is a ton of questions, so please forgive me for the rambling post. Just trying to get some info to make a decision.

Man. save the $$$ and just buy or keep the RTI's they would be better suited for the music you listen to.

Hey thanks for the reply, and it's great you know what music I'm referring to and can make a recommendation on it :) I was starting to think that the LSi's would be better since they reproduce sound better. But then I started thinking, why play a musical genre that sometimes intentionally inserts distortion into the recording, over such a fine speaker system! lol :)

    Thanks again.

    2michaud,

See what Soundsaround has listed for their big sale this year. A few years ago (3??), they had a five speaker LSi package (LSi15, LSiC, LSi7) for $1998. Who knows, they may have another great deal this year.

Once upon a time I had a full LSi package, but have since moved on. They are good for both music and movies.

The music you listen to must be something special to extend to 150KHz.

    Regards.

Oh ok, is that the september sale they usually have? (I can't remember when it is although I have heard of it....boxing day?) 1998! get out! That would be so awesome if I could snag that. But do they still sell LSi's? I've been there recently and I really can't remember LSi's being for sale there.

    So that's +1 for the RTi's
    And +1 for LSi's

I haven't been there for a while, but they used to have them on the showroom floor.

Check Friday's paper for the special flyer. The sale should be next weekend. All the local competing stores also have big discounts to counter this sale.

If you didn't notice, the papers have the Soundsaround flyer today (Friday Sept 12). There is no direct ad for the LSi speakers, so you would have to visit the store.

Visions also used to sell LSi speakers. The location (Richmond Rd and Sarcee Trail) has had them in one of the theater rooms in the back of the store. I haven't been there for awhile so I do not know if they still have them. You may want to check to see if they still have these.

    Happy hunting.

Yeah, I'll head instore to check it out. Thanks again. I'm pretty sure soundsaround doesn't sell them anymore....but visions won't give me a good deal on the lsi's they sell. Maybe they'll work something out.
