Damn my 2a's sound awesome

I just got back from a week at the Outer Banks in North Carolina. I cranked up my stereo and listened to a couple hours worth of good tunes, this was Saturday afternoon. This morning,Sunday, for some reason I decided to replace my SRSII's with my SDA2a's. The SRSII's have RDO's and upgraded x-overs and the 2a's have Peerless tweeters and upgraded x-overs. I am not sure if it's correct to run the Peerless tweeters in replace of the SL's or RDO's but they sure sound great. I may call Ken at Polk and ask if I should change caps or resistors to support the Peerless tweeters. I gotta say I am not sure which pair I enjoy more. No ****!! I am amazed at how good the 2a's sound. They have excellent detail and sound stage is awesome. Bass is lacking a bit but no big deal, I have then about 14" from the back wall. Maybe I'll push them back alittle to assist with the low end.
Oh well I just thought I'd share my thoughts and am happy to have such great speakers. As I remember I paid around $200. for the 2a's and maybe $100. for the x-over upgrade and tweeters, WOW. Thanks again to everyone who had helped me with all the upgrades. Also, Sal/Laz and I may get together to listen/compare our speakers/stereo equipment. I can't wait to get another opinion on the great sound from the upgraded 2a's.

nice Drew.. sounds like a fun listening you got going on..
SDA 2a's to me are second only to the 2b's.. and that's only because the b's are better at bass.
cool post. I too want to hear what Ken says about using the Peerless in those.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I just spoke with Ken at Polk Customer Service. Like they say "if it ain't broke don't fix it" so I am going to leave well enough alone, for now anyway. The Peerless tweeters sound awesome so there is no reason to do anything to the x-over. Maybe since the Monitor 10's w/Peerless use 2.5 and 2.7 resistors and 12uF caps it is not a big deal to make the switch to the 2a's. Just my thoughts!!

I spent 3 months with out mine, and man am I glad to have them back (2a's also) Now I just wish I could get some tube power behind them. I would not mind a good sand amp either, The Denon just does not compare to the Adcoms I had.

When I had my 2As, I was also impressed with the sound and the very reasonable price they could be purchased for. For an SDA so plentiful, it does sound good.

Always enjoyed my 2A's when I had them. It was always amazing when listening to the larger SDA's how much of the way the 2A's got you there. With the RDO tweeter upgrade, a good SS amp and a tube pre, they were pure pleasure to listen to. I've moved on to speakers I like even better, but I have fond memories of the 2A's.DKG999

Doug, there is nothing better than SDA's :p:D;).

Ummm, well, the SDA's are very good, even considering how long it's been since they were last in production. I'll never take the position that the SDA's are not a very good speaker. I won't even rule out rebuilding the SRS's that I have. And I certainly won't take issue with someone who claims the SDA's are the best speaker. But, I do like my Magnepan's better than any SDA I have heard. The Magnepan's do most of what I like as far as sound signature, and few things I don't like. Now if I can ever afford a pair of Sonus Faber Elipsa's, then it's game over! They are the best I have heard, at least to these ears.DKG999

For the record I really liked your Maggies too. For vocal, jazz and acoustic (i'd imagine orchestral too) they are very hard to beat.

LOL, I wish I was but hey, in to every life a little rain must fall. Doesn't change the fact that the 2A's, with upgraded caps and tweets and decent amplification do a helluva good job, especially given the investment."The secret of happiness is freedom. Can/will someone post a picture on how a Peerless Tweeter look?

Ugly pic, but gives you an idea. The peerless has the slanted wire leads coming from the coils. The Sl1000 had these to, but were clear.

Am I the only one who has tried the Peerless in the SDA line? I doubt it. So then, does anyone have any thoughts on using them in the SDA's. If I make a slight adjustment it will be in the x-over to tame the highs slightly.
