Well, the day finally arrived to have a military ceremony & to lay my Uncle John (retired Navy man) to rest in Arlington. His son, John (recently retired Army, Green Berets, & Air Borne) made all the arragements. Let me tell you it was a spectacular event with the Navy's 21 gun salute & the playing of taps & the folding of the flag! Not a dry eye in the crowd! The Navy chaplan also gave a tear jerker of a brief sermon.
The way the military handled the day, from arrival, to the family room for us all to gather & meet before the ceremony, to the actual procession thru Arlington to the ceremony area left me speechless.
I've only seen pictures of Arlington & that by no means do it justice. The grounds will leave you in awe & in tears. It really rekindled my love for my country seeing all those headstones that show the true meaning of loving your country, paying the ultimate sacrifice. I salute you all!!!!
My son at first didn't want to go, he said it would be boring. But afterwards he to walked away with lasting memories & a deeper understanding of the sacrifices brave man & women have done to preserve our freedom in this the greatest country on earth. He later told me that he was glad that I made him come.
And to end the day my cousin John also made arrangements for a luncheon at the Fort Myer Officers Club. What a fitting way to end the day. I was totally impressed on the Fort Myer facility & the way they to handle things.
All in all a sad yet joyus day for the entire family!!!
On a side note my son thought it was pretty cool that we traveled thru 5 (or is it 6...how do you count Wash. DC) states during the course of the day. We left New Jersey, picked my sister up in Philly then headed south thru Delaware, Maryland, then into Virginia.
What a great country we live in!!!!

Sorry for your loss.
Arlington National Cemetary is, hands down, the most inspiring place in our nation's capitol. I live in the area and anyone coming here for the first time with me as a guide starts there. It puts everything else you find in Washington in clear perspective. -

The place is just filled with honor, pride, and a sense of what it means to be an American, it's incredible.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

There's a lot of temporary Washington DC residents who should visit it more often, as the meaning of that hallowed ground seems to escape them.
Personally, it makes me very humble and thankful to walk through that most honorable of places. I shed a few tears everytime I visit.DKG999

pearsall001, something you may want to consider is applying for a Presidential Memorial Certificate for your Uncle John.
It is given for honorably discharged, deceased veterans and is expresses the gratitude of the nation for the deceased veteran's service to this country.
It is signed by the current President.
I believe that such a certificate, properly framed under glass and presented to your Cousin John would mean a lot to him.

mrbigbluelight, thanks so much for thinking of this. I personally didn't know of such an certificate. However the very certificate you are referring to was presented to my cousin John along with his mother during the luncheon at the Officers Club. Again not a dry eye in the crowd. Kudos to the military on the way they handled things!"2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up.
